a disappointment after the first book, December 15, 2000
Predator: Cold War caught my eye because it was a Predator book and I am a Predator fan. I was also pleased to see it was written by Nathan Archer, whose work on the previous Predator novel I had enjoyed. The biggest thing that hooked me, though, was the plot: Predators in Siberia! Cool, I thought! They usually hunt in the heat, so they're out of their element. Maybe that will give the humans an upper hand! Thoughts of all the wonderful potential this novel had danced through my head.
Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as good as all that. The aliens' ship crash lands in Siberia, and the book mainly focuses on the Russians and Americans having a race to get to it first so they can study it. The Predators are not in the book nearly enough, and there's also not enough killing (I know how that sounds, but this is, after all, a Predator book, and it's what readers both expect and want).
The plot moves along at a decent enough pace, but never really seems to kick in to full-speed. However, the russian female lead character (my utmost apologies, but her name escapes me and I haven't a copy of the book nearby) is a great character. Schaefer shows up too (the guy from the first book), which is really cool, and has some nice scenes of conflict with the russian gal, what with their clashing personalities. These are some good points to the book, but they aren't quite enough.
The ending, when it does come, comes far too quickly. I think this book could have been saved by having been made longer and, oh, I don't know, showing the Predators some more (since it is a PREDATOR book). If you're a fan of Predator, you'll enjoy the book somewhat, but if not and you just want to sample a Pred. novel for some reason, go with the first book by Archer, Concrete Jungle.

action-packed, gory., June 28, 1999
This book is awsome! With more action than you can shake an AK-47 at it made you always say "Just one more page." Detailed, exiting and entertaining!
"Hey Archer, we need more Predator books over here!"

I was very pleased with the second book of the Predator series. I look forward to more books(and hopefully another movie!). I would also appreciate any information on how I can publish my own Aliens vs. Predator book.
