5.0 out of 5 stars Worth your money., June 21, 2000

This review is from: Cold Water Music (Audio CD)
I heard this CD played in a restaurant/club in Prague a few weeks ago and had to ask who it was; I ate there three days later and they were kind enough to play it again for me. It's a very smooth album, something you'd want to play softly during a dinner party or loudly, speakers turned out the window, as you're lying in the backyard getting a tan. It's sort of R&B, sort of trippy, with great beats. The song "Sail" is also on HedKandi's Serve Chilled 2 compilation, which is another worthwhile buy. Looking forward to the release of this album, any day now.

5.0 out of 5 stars On a par with Shadow....., May 30, 2000

Yeah, my sentiments match those of the other reviewers ('cept for the last one) - excellent abstract hip hop. Smooth layers, flawless beats and busting bass; this is mellow intelligent hip hop at its best. The instrumentals are clean and deep, and the tracks with rapping still hold the attention, moving on and up. Manchester pushing it on - I was delighted with this purchase; I was actually recommended it from a discussion on the mo'wax website, and I thank the three plus people who raved about this album. It actually reminds me of the better tracks of the DJ Cam 'DJKicks' album. I can't recommend this highly enough....

4.0 out of 5 stars Aiming high, nearly there, December 4, 1999

This album can be neatly cut into two sections, the first and better of the sections contains Sail and Cold water music, tracks which are radically different from the rest of the recording, very reminiscent of Air, who they sit right next to on my shelf. The second half is marginally the weaker, containing a lot of downtempo hip hop, a la definition of sound. The Halloween II sampling track is great though.

4.0 out of 5 stars True Sound, March 4, 2003

This music is fantastic. Perfect for putting on and sitting back, but upbeat enough not to put you to sleep.
Before you know it, you'll be enveloped in the groove and ignoring everything around you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aim - Cold Water Music, February 21, 2011
This review is from: Cold Water Music (Audio CD)
When I call an album a classic, I mean it -- and Cold Water Music is a classic. The beats are solid and funky and the samples fit so seamlessly with the song. "Demonique," for instance, takes vocal snippets from Halloween and makes the song truly creepy. Other tracks have a haunting beauty that's grounded by the beats: "Cold Water Music," "Downstate," and "A Tree, A Rock and a Cloud." And on "Sail," Kate Rogers' gorgeously melancholy vocals send chills down my spine.

While laying down some beautiful instrumentals "Cold Water Music" keeps the beat alive with work from some talented rap MCs and a beautiful track featuring Kate Rogers. This is a record worth listening to and one I wholefully enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars British Hip-Hop, December 27, 1999

Another truly great example from Grand Central Records. This album hasn't left my side for a month. Just an example to all you Yanks who think UK Hip-Hop doesnt exist, listen and learn.
