4.0 out of 5 stars I WANT TO SEE MORE
An amazingly rich read. Brian Hopkins tackles a myriad of subplots with relative ease, bringing everything tightly together. There are no loose-ends...only straight-forward prose that kicks and screams. Though COLD AT HEART is a relatively short work, it shows his ability to handle longer pieces, and I sincerely look forward to reading him again. Well done!

Cold at Heart is a short novel and the premise has promise. A different sort of monster in a desolate part of the world, populated by wolves and not much else. Cold at Heart is a short novel and the premise has promise. A different sort of monster in a desolate part of the world, populated by wolves and not much else. Unfortunately, the story and its execution are somewhat the same. Several missteps in grammar, plot development, characterization, etc., cause the reader to stop and wonder: "Did I misread that? Is something missing?" Flashbacks are more distracting than informative. In the end, this is a short, pleasurable read of horror that has little literary value, and makes one glad that it wasn't longer. Had it been longer, this reader probably would not have finished it. As it is, I wasted little time, found the ideas interesting, and wished for better execution.
