5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Band..
I actually got 13 Ways to Bleed first, and then came back and got the debut album. Both albums are just incredible. This album starts off hard with a pair of very angry and very aggressive songs, "Go Away" and "Give". Then the album has an abrupt change of pace with "Ugly". "Ugly" is simply one of the most amazing songs ever written. It has a very soft, slow ballad feel...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Cold A Bit Cold
Starts off great, with a bang, but then kind of gets generic and boring. Good for a few tracks but expect nothing great.

It has a very soft, slow ballad feel to the music and the lyrics are quite pointed. While every song on this CD is great, the standouts other standouts are "Insane" and "Goodbye Cruel World". Scooter Ward has a captivating voice, very dark and melodic. He knows when to sing and he knows when to scream. The drums and bass are simply amazing; Sam and Jeremy pair up for one of the most incredible rhythm sections ever. The guitar is sharp and catchy.

The album is just not normal, and that's a great thing. The band is very heavily into distortion here, and that's not a bad thing. They use it well. The music here is very genuine and the lyrics have this amazing ability to be quite meaningful and deep, without being pretentious. They know how to maintain a level of simplicity to allows an abrasive sound actually come across as quite beautiful. It's a very dark, very heavy, very melodic, very beautiful album. I think if you've ever wondered what The Cure or Depeche Mode would sound like if they were brutally hard rock, this is it. And it's amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars So dark, you can't even see it, January 1, 2002
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
For most people who just discovered Cold, if you listen to this CD and compare it with 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage, you might be surprised at how their debut CD is much angrier, frustrated and depressing than the newer stuff. The music is pretty simple, but still rocks. Scooter's voice is great on this album. They do a lot more acoustic songs, which is nice, because I think bands like Cold really shine the best through their acoustic numbers. Some songs seem almost over-the-top depressing, especially "Insane." "Give" is my favorite track, a very fast, but emotional track with a great chorus. Fred Durst (love him or hate him) really made a great discovery with this band and I cannot wait for their 3rd CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark album for dark souls, May 9, 2000

I'm usually more into technical chaotic stuff like death and black metal and I really have a strong hate for the mindless "music" of KoRnY, Gimp Bizquick, and Kid Rock and the pontificate attitudes that go along with it. BUT I must give Fred Durst some credit though, he does at least know some good music when he hears it, the signing of Cold is proof of this. This music isn't the most technical you'll ever hear, but they sure can hold their own on their instruments. Scoot Ward's lyrics do get a bit repetitious, but also have a disturbing quality that I find very appealing. Every song on this album is very passionate in a paranoid and depressing kind of way. There have been many nights that I've spent in the dark listening to this album. Definitely not recommended for happy people. If you like Radiohead's "O.K. Computer" or Staind's "Dysfunction", this album will probably sit well in your cd collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cold's Epic Debut!!!!!, May 20, 2003

Even though later Cold albums like Year of the Spider and 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage would make them famous (with hits like Stupid Girl and No One). It was their 1st cd that made them known and got the bands heavy onslaught of metal music going. This album may not be the better of the rest but it is just as good. On selftitled Cold play the dark moody sound we all love but no light ever shines in, 11 tracks of depression and rage stay throughout. Songs like the fabolous Serial Killer and Insane have got to be the most angry and brutal songs Cold's ever put on an album, well Go away and Give are the fastest hard hitting tones that can have your heads banging till they fall off. If your a die hard fan of metal and Cold then you should have this cd in your collection. But if you don't like the different kind of early creepy sound it brings to the band, then don't ... buy it. But otherwise a very impressive theraputic debut!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ..., September 18, 2001

Compared to 13 Ways, Colds self titled debut is very dark and gloomy. Songs like Give, Just Go, and especially Insane and Superstar are songs you want to slit your wrists too. Dark distortion is used on the heavy songs and the acoustic numbers give off a creepy feeling that your spying on the band in when they're releasing their pent up emotions. Ugly and Superstar are both very haunting ballads that ebb depression. I'd like to note that Stainds Outside might as well be considered a cover of Ugly, they're that similar.

This album has a lot of grunge influences, especially in the songs Give and Insane. Lyrically S/T is a bit better than 13 Ways, like most debut albums the band has released a lot of the rage and sadness they had in them. Goodbye Cruel World is a fast song with disturbing lyrics and The Switch has great guitars in it. If you liked Cold's 13 Ways To Bleed at all definatly pick up this gem the next chance you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars cold... the best band of 21 century?, June 25, 2001

i do believe that cold is one of the best bands around. I hope they stick around for a while. Its refreshing to hear lyrics that actually mean something. They are a real band, and just because that stupid mook Durst discovered them, doesnt mean they are like him. Cold has talent no questions about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Debut, July 5, 2003
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
It's been about five years since this cd hit stores, as it marked the debut of an unknown band (at the time), called COLD. To the many who are Bizkit haters, you have to get on your knees and bow to Durst for helping unleash these future masters in the Rock scene. COLD has struck with a stunning debut cd, in which makes it a must have. Yes, I know COLD has unleashed two cds, "13 Ways To Bleed Onstage", and "Year Of The Spider", because I have both of them. (Both being excellent cds). However, if you're a new COLD fan and have yet to get theif self-titled album, please make sure to add it to your collection.

Please avoid the negative reviews on this cd, because if you are a COLD fan, this cd wont disapoint you one bit. To the words of "BAD PRODUCTION" on this cd, it shows in only 2 songs, that being "Ugly" and "Strip Her Down". HOWEVER!, they both sound live, and excellent. That is the only so called "Bad Production" on this album. This is a debut like no other! It has great Guitar/Bass riffs, and the same great vocals by Scooter. This cd is a must have.

SONGS

1. Go Away (5/5) - Nice intro, with great Guitar/Bass riffs. Overall Great Song.
2. Give (5/5) - The music on this song is great. Lyrics are great too.
3. Ugly (5/5) - So called bad production stands out. Yet its a great acustic/live sounding song.
4. Everyone Dies (5/5) - Music intro is excellent. One of my favs on the cd.
5. Strip Her Down (5/5) - Song sounds live again. Lil fuzzy at begining, yet turns into an excellent song.
6. Insane (5/5) - Great intro. Great continuos song through-out entire track.
7. Goodbye Cruel World (5/5) - Nice drum into. Nice song.
8. Serial Killer (4/5) - Loving this intro too, nice-good song.
9. Superstar (4/5) - Pretty good song. Nice melody to it. Picks up good later in the song.
10. The Switch (5/5) - Awesome intro. Great song.
11. Makes Her Sick (5/5) - Nice intro. Awesome guitar riffs. Nice ending to a great cd.

Overall ***** out of *****

In conclusion,
Cold has let out a stunning debut complete with 11 great tracks. If you have yet to pick this, or any of the other 2 albums by COLD up....I advise you to do so right now! Great job COLD.

Thanks,
Just Got Wicked

5.0 out of 5 stars Not A Cure For Depression, July 3, 2001
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
This is possibly the most depressing album I've ever heard. It's all about death, rape, and not being loved. A full listen to this album will have you in tears or it will have you forcing a barrel down your throat. This is raw, gritty, emotional music at it's best. This is not sunny day music; put this in on a dark rainy day or when you find out your girlfriend's fxxxing the pool cleaner.

4.0 out of 5 stars A deeply personal album, June 18, 2001
By
Kolors "Jimmy" (Pocatello, Idaho) - See all my reviews

The lyrics in the songs of this album hit you like a bucket of ice water in the middle of the night. The lyrics are deeply personal, honest, depressing as hell and easy to relate to. The song titles themselves could tell you this. The song "Ugly" is one of the most depressing songs ever and is the reason I finally decided to go pick up this album. If you are a fan of their second album, "13 Ways To Bleed On Stage" make sure you go out and buy this album. This really set the standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars what the hell..., January 4, 2000
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
this cd is one of the best works of art ive ever come across. The way it was put together is just amazing. INSANE just blew my mind away. Ive never heard someone put so much emotion and pain into their lyrics the way scott did.The album starts out with GO AWAY, and thats just a masterpiece on its own (i have to say the eyesocket remix is actually better in a way), then GIVE which is a great follow up, UGLY, which i have to say gives me the same feeling ever time, EVERYONE DIES, is yet another great one, STRIP HER DOWN still puts me in the same emotional mood, INSANE, like i said, the best song on earth, GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD, has some of the sickest lyrics i have ever heard, its great, SERIAL KILLER, which in my opinion is the weekest song on the album, i still think its good, but not like the others, SUPERSTAR. this song kinda makes me wonder if scotts insane, very good song, THE SWITCH, a very fast paced song great lyrics, and finally MAKES HER SICK, a very good way to end the album. I have the cold ep ODDITY, and that has a good bunch of songs on it...well, bye this cd, listen to the lyrics, and you WONT be dissonpointed

Im waiting for their next album to come out, which should be later this spring.
