Another solid outing,

Having purchased and enjoyed the first Kotipelto cd, I was very much looking forward to the release of this one. I am also very happy that Kotipelto has maintained a similar approach and improved on it. There is some great stuff here. Being a huge Symphony X fan, I certainly appreciate Michael Romeo's bigger role here; it is obvious that Timo was quite impressed after the first one. He doesn't turn in any solos or rhythm work that dwarf his work in his own band, but you get some rather unorthodox playing from him. Generally his playing isn't as fast or as heavy, but he has some great, almost jazzy moments at time. He does some blazing, incredibly articulate runs here and there though that remind you that he is one of the best guitarists in the business. The other guitarists turn in some good stuff as well, and the keyboard solos are excellent. Timo is one of the few "helium" singers I like as he generally seems to put more emotion into that high range than many other vocalists like him. Highly recommended for Stratovarius and Symphony X fans or fans of good power metal.

Kotipelto reminds me quite of Helloween and Europe. Thing I hate is the keyboard sounds/solos where the guitar should dominate.Melodic and relaxing power metal indeed and I'm glad the music channel showed the Reasons clip- thus me being modest fan of Kotipelto. Worth the buy if price not too high.

Strato lives on...Sort of,

While Stratovarius is still trying to make an existnecve with some sort of female vocalist (wow, they're really changing huh?) The Stratovarius we all knew and loved can still live on with Kotipelto, the solo band by Timo Kotipelto. There isn't really much difference between this band and Stratovarius, with the exception of the name. It's still the same prog power metal and Timo's soaring higher vocals that sort of remind me of rush. If you liked Strat, you'll like this.
