Beautiful leather cover,

This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Stained Pebble Grain Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Saddle Tan (Electronics)
I had this cover in the original design with straps and had some issues with it not folding back very well and the pocket being huge. These issues have now been addressed. This cover folds back beautifully and the pocket is flush with the case. The cover closes perfectly as well. No longer a problem with it not being flush with the kindle. This cover feels very soft yet sturdy in the hands. It's pricey but if you are interested in spending money on a high quality leather cover this is a great one. Too many covers for the kindle just feel like gadget cases and I wanted something that looked like a leather book cover. This gives me that. I feel like I am reading from an old leatherbound book with this cover. I also feel its very durable and should keep very well. It weighs 7.6 ounces for anyone interested. Its heavier than the amazon cover but feels lighter in my hands. I think that is because it is thicker (without being bulky) so its more comfortable in my hands. As well as having a little ledge for my hands to rest when I read for a long period which the amazon cover doesn't give you.

Covering in Elegance,
This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Stained Pebble Grain Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Saddle Tan (Electronics)
I have been using the Cole-Haan cover since I got my Kindle2. In addition to the protection it provides for kindle, it also offers elegance and finesse to the experience of holding and using Kindle2. It is soft, and resistant. The other day I spilled coffee drops on it and once I cleaned it, it was brand new again.

Perfect cover,

This is such a perfect cover for my Kindle! It is soft, light, but sturdy enough to protect the Kindle. It folds back perfectly and is of a very high quality. I previously bought an M-ledge cover, but returned it, due to low quality of leather, bad smell and too bulky design. Highly recommend this one, it is pricey, but well worth the money!

Is Amazon selling factory seconds/irregulars? (Love product/don't love Amazon's quality control),

I'm hoping that I can update this review when I receive a "normal" Cole Haan Kindle cover as I am currently waiting for the third one to arrive.
From all the 5 star reviews on Amazon, the glowing reviews on blog sites, and because Cole Haan makes high quality goods, I decided to go with this cover. Even though its on the higher end of the spectrum for Kindle cover prices, I wanted to get one that would be comfortable, durable, and high quality. However, I'm wondering if Amazon is selling factory seconds/irregulars. After receiving two defective Cole Haan cases, I called customer service and asked if they were selling factory seconds and I couldn't get a straight answer from them, just an "I don't know." Rather, I was told to call back on Monday (4 days from now) because "the system won't allow me to send a replacement of a replacement item. You'll have to call back and try again." I also noticed the most recent review by "capitalj" also had issues with a bent hinge without damaging to the packaging...hmmmmm. Reason for first exchange: the bottom curved hinge was bent down towards the back of the case making it impossible to connect to the Kindle. Reason for second exchange: the leather was discolored/streaking (notice the two customer images I posted). Obviously these are minor issues in the grand scheme of things but considering that I'm paying $99 for this product I was at least hoping I would get what I paid for, not defective or blemished items. UPDATE: Looks like I won't be getting another replacement as I just received this email from Amazon customer service: "I'm sorry to hear the replacement item had the same problem as your first order. This usually doesn't happen. Since it's likely another replacement would arrive defective, I won't trouble you with another order. Please return the item for a full refund. We'll pay for the return shipping costs." So...does that mean Amazon is selling factory seconds/irregulars of this product now? Did they run out of "non-defective" Cole Haan cases...or is this their policy whenever 2 exchanges happen on the same item? I went ahead and bent the hinge on the first Cole Haan cover I received so it now fits into the Kindle slots (good thing I hadn't returned it yet or I'd be out of luck). The hinge is pretty sturdy so I'm hoping that bending it back won't cause any problems down the line. (I put the discolored case in the mail for return). So, since I had to bend the hinge back into place (now it fits great, looks amazing, love it) I'm going to update to 5 star for the product but 1 star for Amazon's quality control...giving it a 3 star overall.

The ultimate Kindle cover, finally!,

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I've now purchased THREE Kindle covers (a black Amazon one, a blue M-edge one and the Cole Haan one) BUT the good news is that I'm very satisfied with the Cole Haan one. It's soft and wonderfully tactile to hold, the leather is beautiful, and it has a great suede lining that just makes reading on my Kindle a very pleasurable experience. My only caveat is that if you want to use a book light with your Kindle, consider the M-edge cover; it has room for the light with the cover closed, which is a nice feature. Other than that, I recommend springing for the CH cover. Then you'll have the best of all worlds!

If you want a better deal get the Kindle 2 cover from Amazon. It protects as well and has the same functionality. It is very adequate.
There are 3 reasons I bought this cover AFTER having the Amazon cover for months. 1. The business card pocket. A very nice addition and I HOPE if I ever leave it sitting somewhere by accident an honest person picks it up. 2. I like high quality leather and prefer Brown coloring. Neither of which describe the Amazon cover. 3. My Dad got one and I saw the differences in quality I referred to in #2. As you would expect from Cole Haan and at this price, the quality is magnificent. I highly recommend if you want more than an adequate cover.

Looks (and Smells) Great,

For those of you still secretly lamenting the move from organic paper to plastic Kindle, this cover gives you something to be proud of. It looks great and has a very soft but substantial feel. You will also come to love the sound this cover makes as it flaps against the Kindle when you close it. I would have liked to get this cover in black but that wasn't available at the time of my purchase.
This is one of the few covers you should consider because it uses a metal lock to attach to the Kindle rather than a set of custom leather straps that holds the corners and obscures the use of the Kindle.

I am the mom of 3 kids. My youngest being a 2yr old monster named Michael. Ordinarily I keep my Kindle safely stowed away from my little monster. Yesterday was the first day since I got my Kindle that I totally forgot to take it off of the nightstand in the morning. It doesn't shock me that my little one found the Kindle on the nightstand. It also doesn't shock me that he decided to pour the glass of water that was next to my Kindle all over the cover. What does shock me is that both the Kindle and the Cole Haan cover survived the attack. The water never soaked through the cover enough to get to the Kindle. The cover itself was soaked. The Kindle bone dry. I removed the cover from the Kindle and laid it out flat to dry on my counter. It dried within hours and is not water stained at all! This cover is phenomenal. I bought it this cover solely based on its appearance. Obviously I should have based my decision on durability. This cover is pricey but so worth it. It is not just beautiful to look at, it is a great protector also.

I have taken my Kindle 2 on several overseas trips, using this cover as protection and could only ask for one improvment. First, the cover holds the Kindle securely and the leather is thick enough to protect it when it is in a bag with other electonics. It is lightweight and good looking and will take a fair amount of abuse, while keeping the Kindle 2 pristine. The only thing I would suggest as an improvement is the small pocket on the left inside cover should be redesigned. It appears to be made to hold a business card. Instead, it should be increased in size and moved downward so as to hold tickets and boarding passes and even a passport SECURELY. If this were done, all I would need in my hand as I got on a plane was my Kindle 2 in its Cole Haan cover, as my boarding documents would be there with it. If this were done, this cover would be perfect.

The cover is excellent in all ways. My list of positives meets or exceeds all those in other 5 Star rated reviews. In addition to "feeling good, looking good, smelling good" the design compliments the Kindle-2 in every way. In addition, it is very durable and does not need to be "broken in" to feel right in the hand. The $100 price may put you off. But this cover is easily more than twice the quality and fit of the other Kindle-2 covers availble through Amazon.
