3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but could use some practical features, August 12, 2009
This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Ruby Sugar (Electronics)
This is the second cover I have purchased for my K2 and, while the cover's color and patterned design are beautiful, I do wish it had some of the features of the M-Edge cover - like the two small corner straps for added security in addition to the hinge system and a latch to keep the cover closed completely. As I often fold the cover back when I am reading, when I go to close the cover, it never sits flat. These two features would make the cover perfect in my mind. (which it really should be for the price)

I waited a long time for this Kindle cover, and it was worth the wait. Now, not only is it really gorgeous, but it has a very secure attachment device that clips directly into the two tiny slots on the left side of your Kindle. MUCH better than the elastic holders of the older version. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, more just something you have to get used to, is that the right side of the Kindle is not secured, so it sort of swings around if you're not careful. However, I have no doubt that it's securely in place and is not going to fall. And for those of you who like to fold back the left side of a cover, this one accomplishes that just fine. This is, for sure, an expensive cover, but if you want the most elegant and beautiful cover for your Kindle, this is IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Updated: Disappointed at first, but I've grown to like it, January 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Ruby Sugar (Electronics)
Original review: January 2010 - I'm afraid that I will be returning this cover. It started out as an eagerly awaited package. I've been waiting for days for my Kindle2 and the Ruby Sugar Cole Haan cover. In fact, I opened the cover before I opened the Kindle. It's nicely packaged, wrapped in tissue, in a box with a coordinating basket weave print, inside a cardboard sleeve. But when I pulled the tissue paper back, it was an immediate letdown. The color was much less rich than what was pictured on the website. I saw it on multiple computers on multiple websites before I ordered it. They all showed a shiny, deep red cover. The one I got is more of a darkish rose, almost a pearly finish, nowhere near as shiny, and looked to be of an inferior quality. In the basketweave where you see the side of the leather strips they are a much lighter color and rough on the hands, and it had some sticky spots like there was tape residue. I immediately wrapped it back up and put it back in the Amazon box for a speedy trip to the post office. After I opened the Kindle and set it to charge, I got to thinking about having to baby the Kindle until the other cover I ordered came in and decided to give the Cole Haan cover another chance. After unwrapping it again I was slightly mollified about the color when I noticed it was almost the color of my nail polish, just a little lighter. I opened it and fit the hooks into the slots on the Kindle. It did securely hold the K2, seemingly more securely than the days of yore with the elastic straps. The suede on the interior is a gorgeous dove gray and super soft. Alas, I'm sure the pale gray would show wear quite quickly. I think a darker color would be better. I'm inclined to spend a great deal of money on quality products, the type you expect to treasure for years to come, but I don't see this piece as being one of those. The cover is not as well made as I would have expected from Cole Haan, the Ruby Sugar color was a real disappointment, and I just don't think the product justifies the cost. This will be returned to Amazon.

EDIT: May 11, 2010 - - Four months and 6 countries later this cover has really grown on me. I like how easily it folds back for one handed reading. The woven leather on the outside has held up much better than I expected - months of bouncing around in my purse, in and out of airline seat back pockets, and propping it up on whatever ever was handy for hands-free reading has not taken any toll on the cover. The color, while still not as vibrant as I wanted/expected has held up well. I've had no problems at all with the hook mounting system, my kindle has never fallen out and no signs of case cracking either. I have the light designed to fit in the pocket slot of the m-edge covers and find that I can slide the tab of that between the kindle and hinge above the top hook and use the light fairly securely. No, you can't store it in this cover, but since I rarely need the light outside my home or hotel room, it's not an issue for me. My fears for the pale gray interior were well founded - there's a definite grubbiness to be noticed, particularly if you take the kindle out and see the difference with the near pristine inside back side. I am impressed after all with the craftsmanship of this cover, much more so than my m-edge cover, that's the one I should have returned. I ended up not returning this through a combination of too lazy to get it to the post office and I tired of carrying my kindle in the box while I waited for my m-edge cover to arrive. I am glad I never got around to returning it, because I do like it, and having seen many people out and about with their kindles (even internationally!) I've noticed none look as attractive as this cover. I originally gave it a 3 star rating, I'd update that to a 4.5, taking a half star off for the really impractical pale gray lining. A deeper charcoal color would look just as good, but be more forgiving. To sum up how much I've changed my initial opinion of this cover: I'm considering purchasing it in the tanzanite color as well.

I was quite disappointed in this cover--it did not look as rich as I thought it would from Cole Haan and the workmanship was shoddy. I returned it and got one from M Edge that is much nicer and a whole lot less expensive. The woven patent leather is not comfortable to hold onto and looks more like plastic than leather

1.0 out of 5 stars Coal Hahn maybe?, January 28, 2010

Talk about disappointing. My fiancee picked out this cover to go with the Kindle she got for her birthday. It looks good in the pictures and with the Cole Haan name you expect high quality goods. Add in a relatively high price and you pretty much expect the best. This fell WAY short of our expectations! The construction is second class at best. The Cole Haan logo looks like it was glued on crookedly with Elmers glue. The seems were sticking up as well. I would fully expect to pay $10-$20 dollars for this as a knock-off on the streets of NYC. It's a cool weave design in a great color, but the quality just isn't there. I'm thinking that this is one of those products that was originally intended to be sold for much less through Amazon and outlet stores. Very disappointing to see Cole Haan allow their name to be put on this cover. Wait til this thing is at the outlets or at Overstock's site for $30 or less.

I really like this cover. Very attractive and functional while it cradles the Kindle (I could not reist. My one issue is with the light colored suede interior. It gets a little grubby.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle cover not up to Cole Haan standards, December 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Ruby Sugar (Electronics)
I bought this cover because I thought it looked beautiful in the picture (and even after reading some of the less favorable reviews). I was very disappointed. I expected more from Cole Haan and for $119, I expected a more luxurious cover. It felt like cheap plastic, was very hard, and the edges of the leather strips were not cleanly cut. The weaves were crooked and gappy.

The only pleasant experience was the ease in returning it. The customer service agent was very nice and efficient.

Wow. This is not only a classy looking cover, it is cushiony enough to protect my Kindle from accidental bumps and thumps. Well worth the extra funds it costs. There is a convenient little pocket inside the cover where I keep a business card for identification purposes should it become necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like it but love would be too strong a word, January 1, 2010
This review is from: Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Ruby Sugar (Electronics)
The design and rich colour of this case is what attracted me in the first place and it does not disappoint from that standpoint. The construction is good, but perhaps not as luxurious as I'd hoped for with the Cole Haan name on it. The leather strips used to weave the cover are rougher than I'd imagined and while the interior suede finish is soft and feels great, the light colour is bound to get scuffed. Also, the business card holder is slightly too small to accept my standard-sized business card without bending it - I got it in, but for the sake of another couple of millimetres, it would be nice to simply slip it in. The locking mechanism feels secure and the cover closes well. I like to fold back the cover for reading and it does this without a problem. Overall, I'm pleased with the appearance but some of the functional features are lacking. If there were a wider selection of attractive, good-quality covers available, I probably wouldn't get this again but as it stands now, I won't return it.
