Good looking winter boot, comfy enough for long walking, suitable for any leg width, December 27, 2009
This review is from: Cole Haan Women's 'Air Sara' Slip-on Short Wedge Boots (Apparel)
I have a hit and miss relationship with the Cole Haan brand. Some styles I find comfy, others, even the ones with the Nike Air technology, are tight and leave my feet achy. The Sara short boot is a HIT! I own it in black and I have a little devil sitting on my shoulder whispering "Come on! Buy the taupe, too!" Here is why:
1) C*O*M*F*O*R*T* Don't be afraid of the heel. The combination of platform and heel leaves you with a manageable elevation that actually aids your walking comfort. The front is slightly curved upwards, further making this style a true walking boot. The boot is VERY light on the leg. The size is true. So is the width. It is forgivable for a wider foot.
2) I am 5'11" and have wide legs. I find it almost impossible to find boots that fit my calves. Thanks to the stretchy inserts on each side of the shoe, the boot slides easily onto your leg and does not block circulation, even with a thick sock on.
3) The shoe is suede. It is not designated as waterproof. However, I have worn it in the snow without any problems. Make sure to brush the shoes with a suede brush and spray it with a suede spray before the first use. Repeat every few uses.
4) Despite being a substantial boot, the style looks dainty on your legs. I believe it can be worn with gabardine pants in formal office work environment. I am tired of winter snow boots that make you look like you are wearing a sink on each foot...
Please be aware that the black is NOT a true black. It is almost the darkest shade of grey. It bothered me in the beginning, until I realized that it looked good with both black and grey pants/coats. Now I consider it a plus. The taupe has a black sole. That is something that I still need to get over. I would prefer it to be brown/taupe.
To sum up: good looking winter boot, comfy enough for long walking, suitable for any leg width. Can't beat that!

Not worth the money, December 5, 2010
These boots just aren't as good-looking as I thought they would be. I bought them on sale and didn't realize the seller's return/exchange policy was really only an exchange policy, or I would have returned them. The seller didn't have anything else remotely similar, and the rest of the stock consisted of nothing but athletic shoes, so s/he didn't have anything else I wanted. I'm realizing you really have to read all the fine print before buying anything from Amazon these days, because each seller has different policies, just like on Ebay. The boots just don't look as well-made as I would expect from Cole Haan, and as far as the "Air" part is concerned, they're no more comfortable than any other boots with a similar shape and height. They are a bit clunky and less tailored than I expected, but it looks like I'm stuck with them.
