If Romance is what you seek, Juan Luis Guerra fulfills in spades on this collection of poetry and song that stands as a testament to the greatest living poet-songwriter in the world. Guerra is a muse for anyone who has ever hummed a song of love, and examples of greatness abound here - "Burbujas de Amor" "Como Abeja al Panal" and a dozen other songs - are proof positive of this legend's incredible lyrics, at once emotional and vibrant. Please Juan Luis, give us more orginals in the months ahead - we miss your incomparable style and words. Anyone seeking passion is encouraged to listen with an open heart and mind to the romance of Juan Luis Guerra. One of a Kind!

The other reviews say it all. J-L Guerra is presently the greatest performer and composer of Spanish-language music. He is one of the great figures of world music and EVERYONE should be aware of what he does. This man has it all: voice, arrangements....but above all, it's his sense of melody. I don't understand Spanish but I can feel his emotions through his wonderful melodies. American listeners, get with it! It's time to start listening outside of the box. Juan-Luis Guerra. Caetano Veloso. Joyce. Kazem al-Saher. Najwa Karam. Ali Farka Toure. Djemilady Tounkare. D'Gary. There is a WHOLE WORLD out there and once you start listening to it, you'll wonder how you were ever content with listening to just English-language music. (Not to say that there are not some good things coming from that direction.) Come on. Check it ALL out. We are living in a GLOBAL ECONOMY!!!!

A recent fan of Juan Luis Guerra, I purchased the 2 CD set because of his two most popular songs that I knew of, "Bachata Rosa" and "Burbujas de Amor" that get occasional radio play. Little did I know that the other 18 songs were just as great. His music is unique as is his voice. The calming tropical rhythms made me wish I were stranded on a beach in Santo Domingo as the sun fell toward the horizon and I fell into the arms of the one I love. The perfect romantic collection because of its soothing melodies and Juan Luis Guerra's lyrics are...simply poetic! You can't help but hum the melodies hours later in your car, in the elevator...or anywhere. People will wonder what you are so happy about. It's simply irresistible! This singer/songwriter is in a league of his own and highly respected in the latin music industry and now I know why now. I highly recommend buying this record as well as his others. I would say that this is "one to fall in love to."

Juan Luis Guerra has been around quite awhile, long enough to have a greatest hits package and this a collection of his best slow jams, romantic music for two. Although his cumbias were very notable high charged dance numbers he has always had a soothing voice , perfect for romantic songs. This collection is primarily songs taken from four albums, all excelent, "Areito", "Bachata Rosa", "Mientras Mas Lo Pienso", "Ni es lo mismo ni es lo igual." One cut comes from one of my personal favorites "Ojala que llueva cafe." Included as well is a choice live recording of "Estrellitas y duendes" from Spain, Juan Luis is at his best, seductively crooning "viviras en mis suenos como tinta indeleble..........no se olvida el idioma cuando dos hacen amor." The song is so good he does it twice, once live and once in studio for this CD. Twenty songs make up this double disc that features some of his best recordings on the romantico side. A thick package that opens four fold, with discs easily accessible in the middle and a nice booklet with complete lyrics and photographs round out a beautiful CD for those quite moments of reflexion of that special person.....as a reviewer said it is music for falling in love. Personal faves are "Senales de Humo"......"y un codigo morse transmite el "te quiero" de un angel"," Amapola"........"y una ampola me lo dijo ayer que te voy a ver", "Coronita de flores".........."y una coronita de flores para que te acuerdes de mi","Tu "........"mientras mas lo pienso,tu llenaste el tiempo, tu la razonque me hace ser feliz que mas puedo pedir", "Burbulas de amor"......."y hacer burbujas de amor por donde quiera" and of course "Estrellitas y duendes"..........."comere lo que sobre dentro tu corazon." Juan Luis is a superb talent as he also writes all the songs and music, plays guitar and sings. An excelent CD for old and new fans of this Dominican Republic export for romantic hearts worldwide.

Juan Luis Guerra's interpretation of bachata/romantic music is simply stunning! It is rare that an artist can transfer the energy and light of faster music (merengue and salsa being an example) and showcase that ability in slower paced songs. Some of the best music from this Dominican legend are featured, here, on this double CD. They include "Frio, Frio" and "Amor De Conuco." These songs are perfect for a romantic evening with your sweetheart, or, if you are cooking a warm meal in the kitchen. Guerra brings soul, heart and sincerity to all of these songs.....this is just one example of his multitude of abilities as a singer, to appeal to his universal audience. It really doesn't matter if you speak Spanish or not. His songs will touch you.........

If you've never heard of Juan Luis Guerra and his band 440, you need to have this here album right away. If you do know him, then you'll appreciate all the new arrangements his done to some of his best songs.

This is no ordinary "greatest hits" collection, but rather a re-imagining of his music. Guerra made new arrangements to most of the songs in this double CD, making them more romantic, deeper and lovelier.

Standouts of this collection: "Tu" and "¡Ay! Mujer"

Juan Luis Guerra just took me by surprise with his latest release. I mean the man is an icon. His great lyrics and soothing voice just showed me his potential. His new hit "Tu" is a beatiful song expressing his true feelings which is one of my favorites a long with "Estrellitas y Duendes" and "Burbujas de Amor. I recomend this CD to everybody that likes Latin Music because this is diffenitely one of his better cd's.

primero antes que nada, esta coleccion de juan luis guerra es estupenda, llena de canciones extraordinarias y un sentimiento unico. juan luis guerra is much more than a songwriter; he is a poet that share his gift with us with his beautiful lyrics and melodies. this album as the previous ones are deserving more than 5 stars.....they are masterpieces!

Looking for the 440 CD that includes the unforgettably romantic song "Reina Mia," I came across this CD, already having a copy of Los Grandes Exitos de 440, which also does not have the song on it. For anyone who's never heard the ecstatic, upbeat, joyoyus "Reina Mia," you haven't heard all that Juan Luis Guerra has given us. For me, every, rare, time that I hear it, it brings tears of joy to my eyes - my brother-in-law Jose played it for us the night of our wedding when he hosted a second wedding reception party at his home. The harmonies, fast beat, beautiful lyrics and joy of this song should not be missed by any collection that purports to be the Coleccion Romantica of Juan Luis Guerra y Quatro Quarenta - I don't know why it's been left off, sadly...

Este nuevo cd incluye algunos temas romanticos de Juan Luis, que muchos conocemos, y que ya aparecieron en un previo album de grandes exitos, algunos no fueron incluidos, y son aca introducidos con remezcla y remazterizacion. Lo novedoso de esta colecccion reside en varios temas que ya el habia grabado y aqui son presentados con arreglos y ritmos diferentes. El profundo y hermozo liricismo de Juan Luis es siempre mas notorio cuando la cancion es lenta. En el merengue las letras son empujadas sin respiro, y la belleza de las imagenes y las palabras se disipan en el tropel ritmico. En los nuevos temas incluidos adivinamos a un JuanLuis renovado,tal vez mas meditativo, sin alejarse del merengue, pero queriendo explorar la balada y usarla como plataforma en donde su vocacion de poeta se canalice y aprecie mejor. Recordemos ademas, que lo mas popular de Juan Luis han sido sus bachatas. Ademas, la corriente merenguera bailable del momento ha tomado un giro degradatorio y el no quiere enfilarse por tal descarrilero. Esperamos mas de este nuevo giro..que lo hace un artista mas completo, maduro e interesante. El sonido es estupendo..recordemos que ya gano un grammy por ello. El diseno del album es de primera...Para el fan de Juan Luis este es un album que es imprescindible tener. Para los admiradores casuales, nada mas hermoso y trascendental que esta musica emotiva, inteligente e inolvidable..
