Fabric disintegrated on the second year - shame.,
By Wilson (Mullumbimby, NSW) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coleman 15 x 15 GeoSport Screen (Sports)
UPDATE:
Fabric completely disintegrated when I put it up for the second summer...what a shame, great design but LOW QUALITY MATERIALS. If you can afford a new one every year...great buy. Original review: High winds, torrential downpours, zips opened and closed over and over again with no problems at all (2 months). I highly recommend the GeoSport, it has actually exceeded my expectations so far. The 5 sided design is a WINNER for sure. It shifts in the wind effortlessly, offers UV protection and for a screen tent gives a surprising amount of rain protection too. The vent at the top is fantastic as well, it picks up the slightest amount of breeze keeping it cool inside but also closes itself off completely when it rains. The instructions are COHERENT, putting it together is a breeze. It's got a great carry bag and it's compact and light so carrying it around would be easy. IMPORTANT POINT: You don't have to dismantle the tent to move it somewhere else, just unhook the pegs and go. Very handy when the grass starts to grow inside the tent and you need to mow. THE COST: I bought a gazebo for $125.00 at the hardware store and attempted to assemble it's millions of cheaply made, incorrectly numbered bits. When I eventually did it was so completely shoddy that it was actually breaking as I disassembled it for return. Given that this is what $125.00 buys you today, the GeoSport is excellent value.

I have taken this thing on many music festivals and (car) camping trips. Yes it is kind of heavy and bulky, but the thing is huge. There is enought room for a picnic table, a couple chairs, and a couple of coolers while still leaving room for plenty of buddies. I also have a lantern hanging from the top so we can play beirut all night long!

Well for starters the directions where simple as long as you had two people putting this up. It has survived 50MPH winds and its still standing. It keeps everything dry to an extent after all its a screen room and rain does move in different directions when the wind blows but other than just a little dew on the table and chairs its been working out to our benefit. We are actually thinking about purchasing another one for our hot tub. Once again very satified customer. Thanks

I purchased this prior to a multi-family camping trip, anticipating its use as an eating & conversation center.
1. I erected it singlehandedly in about 25 minutes. Very straightforward & easy, but I do posses a high mechanical aptitude. 2. We had a LARGE picnic table and a 4 ft. x 2 ft. cooking table for the camp stove, microwave & griddle, as well as space for 3 large coolers. We were able to seat everyone comfortably (10), with adequate room. 3. We did have a few local thunderstorms without any problems. It's a no brainer to move some items a foot or two away from the screens to avoid getting wet. 4. Lots of traffic thru screen doors with 5 nephews & niece. No problems with zippers. 5. It kept bugs out unless the doors were left open. 6. Very ridgid structure in wind . 7. Easy to repack. 8. Quality of product very good for the price. I would reccomend it to anyone & would buy another one.

I purchased this screen tent to bring camping with us. We go camping a lot, as well as with the scouts. Our first set up took a while, as another reviewer stated, probably close to 45 minutes if not over. My husband would have preferred something to go up a little faster. We ended up having to move it once we got it up, which proved to be a little difficult with just 2 of us. It's bigger than we expected, though there were only 3 of us on our first outing with it, it will be interesting to see how we do with 10 or so people! So for our family of 3 it was great. It did well keeping the bugs out, which was a big selling point for me, that is of course until you open the doors and go in and out a lot. We kept out chairs set up in it the day after we put it up, and it rained while we were gone. It didn't do a super job keeping the rain out. Two of our chairs were next to each other, one got soaked while the other was fine. Our stove and table also got pretty wet. My husband would have liked some instructions on how to fit it back in the nice little bag they give you once you take it out and put it up!! Take down was pretty easy, though I will point out that some of the connectors were filled with water from the previous day's rains. All in all we enjoyed it, it does what I bought it for, and I would recommend it. We just had a bit of a learning curve this first outing!! :-)

This thing is great. Assembly is very easy. My 5 year old and I had it set up in 20 minutes or so. The next time it will go up in less than that. It is HUGE as other reviewers have noted. We have an 8 foot picnic table in ours, and there is plenty of room to move around. It is very sturdy, and easy to move when you need to mow the lawn. I would absolutely recommend this tent.

Good design with ample space but poor quality zippers,

This was purchased for an extended family camping trip to be used as a bug-free eating and entertaining area.
What worked well: - The generous foot print and headroom make for a very roomy space, with plenty of room for a large picnic table, extra chairs, and ten or more adults. - The large screen panels provide an unencumbered view giving a sense that one is simply sitting outside rather than in a screen room. - Holes in the wall-ceiling connector brackets are very handy for hanging items from s-hooks. - The center ceiling bracket has another attachment point for hanging a battery powered lantern that provides good ambient lighting. - Setup, once practiced in the backyard, is relatively straight forward. What did not work well: - The zippers on the two entry walls are very low quality and one failed after only a couple of days of frequent use forcing everyone to walk to the back of the screen room. Given that the entire point of a screen room is to keep insects out and to do so requires closing the zipper after each entry or exit, it is essential that the zippers be of suitable quality and durability. Coleman should have installed much better zippers. - The overall fit of the screen room fabric over the frame could be improved as one cannot get the base of the walls to seal against the ground without stretching the material to the point of ripping. Again, this goes to the main purpose of a screen room - to keep insects out. Overall I am pleased with the roominess of the screen room but its durability and longevity are questionable due to the poor quality zippers and over-stressing required to seal the walls to the ground. Needs improvement. I have not decided whether to return it or pay a local tent maker to install better quality zippers.

Awesome Canopy,
By Lover of Amazon Reviews (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coleman 15 x 15 GeoSport Screen (Sports)
We chose this canopy to use at the beach for shade, privacy, and to hopefully prevent our toddler from wandering away. We selected it because reviews for pop up canopies said their legs were flimsy and easily bent. we were comfortable with 4 chairs, an ice chest, some beach bags, and a small blow up pool for our son. The beaches in Texas during summer are incredily HOT so we had to open the zipper sides to get a cross breeze.
It required 3 of us to set it up but two coordinated men who are handy and communicate well could probably do just as well. Someone tall (or a step ladder) will be needed to throw the canopy over the posts. After the first set up, we did not need to consult the directions to assemble it. This canopy has a relatively easy set up design going for it and did not have hundreds of parts. Make sure the zippers are closed before you stake the canopy. Otherwise they'll be harder to close. The posts/legs on this canopy are sturdy yet lightweight and easy to assemble. The carry bag is nice but doesn't have a reinforced side or extra layer of fabric to make it stiff. Once you remove the cardboard box which previously held all the parts, the bag is floppy. This can make it harder to put everything back inside if you're on soft sand. This canopy would be great for camping or hanging out somewhere that it will be set up all day. On the down side, we won't be taking it to a soccer game or somewhere that you want a quick set up and down...like a pop up canopy. We wouldn't take it to a tail gate either because there is no option to roll up all of the sides. The Coleman 15 x 15 Geosport Shade would be a better option for a tailgate and could probalby fit a picnic table without people feeling cramped. It would be nice if... 1. the tips of the posts were color coded so a child could quickly sort the three different types of posts; 2. there were ties #on the inside# to tie the canopy to all five legs instead of just a couple #for windy settings; 3. the inside ties were longer (since you have to tie them like a shoelace# or wider with velcro closures; 4. the carrying bag was a bit deeper/wider to accomodate a haphazardly folded canopy. All in all this canopy was easy to set up and figure out which legs connected to which and it worked great for what we needed...shade, privacy, and toddler containment at the beach.

great screen tent, easy up & down,
By
This review is from: Coleman 15 x 15 GeoSport Screen (Sports)
I bought this tent for a BBQ and really like it. I'm a 35 y/o, 5'2" female and had no problem actually putting it up myself. I had every intention of getting help and thought I'd start the process and then wait for the company coming over to help me finish, but it was so simple I just did the whole thing.
The only thing I messed up on was putting the actual tent over the poles "inside out", so once I raised the whole thing up, the velcro loops to attach to the framework were on the outside of the tent - oops. :-) Just remember, you're not supposed to be able to read where it says Coleman from the INSIDE, if you can, it's inside out. It was an easy fix, I just brought the poles down a level, flipped over the tent part and put the poles back up. All you do to set it up is put the poles in the center hub, then the other end of those poles get another hub that will, in turn, hold the legs. When you're done putting the poles into the first two hubs, you drape the tent over the frame, then just simply snap the legs into place. Make a few adjustments, secure it and stake it once you get it up and voila, a nice, bug free, place to hang out. Oh, and it comes with a nice big bag that everything fits into!

I got a great deal on this so I'm a little biased it only cost me $20 so I'm very happy for the price I paid.
But even If I paid full price it would have been worth it. It's got lots of room for walking around and plenty of headspace so that you never feel cramped even when you are walking under the edges. It's like 9 feet tall in the middle and about 6 ft tall on the edges and 15 feet accross. You can set it up right over a large state forest picnic table, and everyone who walks by looks jealously while you are cooking and eating in peace with no mosquitos. Very easy and fast to setup. Once you have done it a couple times it will only take you 5 minutes to have it up and covered. First time it may take you 10-15 minutes. Make sure you use the tie downs- without them it blows over rather easily but it stays put once you nail it to the ground with the included pegs. This is a great product and I highly reccomend for yard, camping or any other purpose when you want to keep out the bugs or just have some shade. |
