Does Its Job And Stays Out Of The Way,
This review is from: Coleman Tent Fan (Sports)
When tent camping alone, this little fan works wonders. It doesn't crank out a lot of air, but it does get things flowing pretty good considering how small it is. It beats lugging around a portable standup fan and having to fight with it all night. This fan stays tucked neatly out of the way on the dome of my tent.
I wouldn't suggest using it if you have more than one person in your tent with you, especially if you AND your guest get hot fairly easily. If you are alone, however, this little fan can keep you relatively comfortable all night. It's a camper's dream for a little relief, but it isn't much help if you're camping in an area that stays rather hot in the evening.

Great little fan....good for smaller dome tents,

This fan is great for a 2-4 person dome tent. I used it camping on a HOT weekend and it helped to circulate the air. The batteries lasted the whole weekend, with the fan being on continuously over night. This impressed me.

Broke after 2 days,
By
This review is from: Coleman Tent Fan (Sports)
Be warned... The weight caused by the batteries in the base is extensive. When it worked, it was so great that my girlfriend pointed out we needed a second one. The weight of the batteries in the fan portion deformed the little plastic flanges that hold it to the backing, and two of the four broke within 48 hours. The fan will not hang now, and can only be held or set on a table edge. Poorly designed, given the weight of the fan mechanism and the batteries...

This little fan packs a punch,

When my fans arrived I wasn't sure about them. But when I put batteries in...WOW! For camping in a tent it is perfect, we bought two of them. One fan for each side of the tent. I think this fan is a great buy.

I bought two of these little guys and they are worth the price but they have a few flaws. Like once the battery is in the fan becomes very heavy considering you're mounting it to a tent wall. Also the fan blade feels flimsy, I mean I'm glade it's soft and flexible because I've hit my hand on it before but it does feel like it will break, that's why it's best to take the blade off of the fan while traveling with it. And while the magnet feature is a great way to mount it on your tent without worrying about damaging anything if you're by yourself you can't put it on a wall that is far away from an opening in the tent.
The battery does last a long time I've been on 2 weekend camping trips with them and haven't had to change the batteries once even though we left them running all night. Also it only uses 1 D battery and if you get 2 you can alternate between them to make it last longer. And the best thing about it is it creates a little white noise so it helps to drown out the sounds of the woods at night.

STILL WORKING AFTER 5 YEARS!,
By

I bought 2 of these fans about 5 years ago. At first we only used them at night. I was AMAZED that I could run it all night (it is COMPLETELY SILENT) on a 4 night trip and it was still going strong. I've since bought 2 more as gifts. Sometimes I attach them to the canopy over our picnic table or just carry them. We use these fans on every trip and I never worry about them falling or breaking or running out of juice. I don't know what others are doing with their fans to have such poor performance. I keep mine in a coffee can between trips, in a hot attic (w/o battery of course) and they work time and and time again with no problems. I just pull off the propellers and put the pieces in the can. Simple. With the magnetic grip you can attach it right to the gear loft and enjoy a great breeze just like having a ceiling fan. I love them. By the way... you might think open blades are a safety issue but they are very gentle and stop the instant they encounter an obstruction. I've stuck my fingers in them many times (as have my children) and they have been totally harmless. The blade stops instantly and it doesn't hurt one bit. It's kind of a good party joke. The magnet is super strong and holds tight. I wish I had these when my kids were in strollers.

I might be very unlucky or these are really poorly made. I ordered two fans and both came to me with the magnet detached. The magnets were only connected to the fan with a glue of some sort and even without the D batteries they were pretty heavy.

backpacking tent fan,

i got this fan for tent camping in cold weather. i use it with my Coleman catalytic tent heater which runs on a propane cylinder. the fan is needed at the top of the tent blowing down at the heater to keep all the warm air from rising to the top of the tent. it is the smallest most compact and light weight fan i could find. it is important for a backpacker to have something light weight that will pack small. this fits the bill perfectly. the back of the fan is a removable magnet that you put on the outside of the tent and the fan is put on the inside so that the magnet is holding onto tent fabric and it works great. the only negative i have is the battery compartment is a little tricky to open. you have to jam something like a car key into one of the two holes that say push. i almost broke it until i figured out what i was doing. other than that its a nice little fan.

I bought 3 of these fans and in all cases the magnet had unstuck from the fan body rendering them useless on the campsite, which was when I opened them for the first time (only a visual inspection was done prior). Luckily I had some tape to hold them together and was able to improvise. The fan worked well and there was no complaints operationally, I strongly recommend that you physically check the item and check it before reaching the campsite.

Does the job, but got some issues,

I read the reviews and had concerns, but it was the only fan that I could get in time for a campout. Overall, the fan works. It was really hot and this fan circulated the air in my 4-man tent. While I wasn't in danger of being blown out of the tent, it did push the air around and provide a gentle breeze. There is very little chance of the fan falling because the magnet that connects the back plate which goes on the outside of the tent and the rest of the fan is strong...really strong. So strong that when I pulled the fan off the back plate, the back batter cover which the magnet is attached stayed stuck to the back plate. The next time I removed the fan, I thought I knew better and held on the sides where the battery cover locks on to the fan. This time the glue that holds the magnet on the battery cover pulled a part leaving the magnet still attached to the back plate. Time to break out the liquid nails glue. I'll keep the fan, it works, but Coleman should redesign the fan. The tabs that hold the battery cover to the rest of the fan is really thin and I can see it breaking easily with the magnet that strong.
