Here are my first impressions of my new Coleman Evanston 6 after I set it up for the first time. Plus some product details I wasn't able to find before the purchase.

I set it up alone. Two long black poles, two long grey poles, a short black pole for the rear window bow, color coded sleeves, no confusion, no mix ups. The poles are very long and bendy. I found it easier to feed the poles in section by section, unfolding as you go rather than following the instructions to unfold them completely first. The fabric sleeves are not reinforced so check the pole ends and ferules for burrs and sharp edges and feed them in carefully. It was also easier to bow and raise the tent with just the two black poles and then feed the front grey pole after. Less weight to wrestle and less floppy ends sticking out. Toss one of the guy strings over the top and then pull the rain fly carefully over. Then install the last grey pole in the awning and stake everything out. There are several velcro tabs on the underside of the rain fly to secure it to the main poles. Unfortunately they are plastic backed instead of fabric. Probably won't last long. Guy strings and tent stakes are average quality.

It's a zipper main door on this model with zip up half screen. No flap overlap on the zipper either. I'm hoping the awning will make up for this. (The Evanston 8 has the hinge door).

Open mesh on two sides and zip up window in the back. The rain fly overlaps the mesh sides quite a bit. I'm not worried about rain coming in that way. I see this configuration as a compromise between fully closeable tents prone to condensation and some of the other Coleman models with lots of mesh on the back wall that you can't close at all to keep the drafts out. The tent is big and roomy inside.

This is a nice tent that comfortably accomodated two adults and two children. It was fairly easy to set up and has helpful features with a vestibule awning to divert rain. The only negative is that the loops through which the external tent poles pass are not reinforced in any way. So I already have a slight tear on one of them after using it the first time. You have to be very careful passing the poles through the fabric. Overall it is very light and seems a bit fragile. But for the price, and with care, it will be a very good tent for us and our grandchildren. I would definitely recommend setting it up on a tarp.

I received the tent this week and knew I had to set it up before I took it camping. It barely fit on our deck, this thing is huge! I really like the open feeling it gives, very tall, ample room, and appears sturdy. Setup was done in the typical style of a dome tent. It had two fiber poles(much better than the old wood ones) that crossed each other, then a third hoop to lift up the front a little. This was very straight forward. I set it up by myself and it only took me about fifteen minutes, first time. I haven't tried the rain-fly yet.
Again, I really like the size, being able to stand in a tent is really nice.

What I didn't like was how the material felt a little thin. I actually tore a little 1/8th inch hole in the pole guide while barely pushing. This is not your grandpa's canvas tent! I just kept easing the pole through and working the fabric. I will also be getting a tarp for under the tent, as that is not as substantial as I would like it to be.

Other than that, I really like it. I did think it was the tent with the hinged door, but that was my mistake. Besides, I'm not so lazy that I can't unzip a door...maybe.

I am really looking forward to using this over the summer.

For a novice camper, this was a wonderful tent. This was my first year camping with my own equipment as opposed to borrowed and this tent was the highlight of my weekend. The only issue I had with the setup was that it was definitely a two-woman job! Since all I had lying around were men, it took myself and two of those guys 😉, mainly, the erecting of the poles and sheathing of the rainfly due to its large size. The water-proof floor made it unnecessary to use a footprint, an added expense in my case, but for further excursions into a wet, slippery environment I would recommend additional protection down below.
The two nights we spent in the location, we experienced torrential downpour, uncharacteristic of mid-July in the Midwest, but we made do and stayed dry as long as we were in this tent and only had to zip up the vents a couple of times when the wind blew the water past the lovely rainfly's protective lips.
In case you were wondering, I researched water-proofing and newly manufactured tents shouldn't require additional waterproofing measures. I didn't and was fine. Next excursion, I will bring an appropriately fitted footprint because I fear tearing the tarp-bottom. Though it is well-made, like all things, not completely indestructible. Prophylactic measures are always safer 😁

We looked at this tent on Amazon at the price of $109.96. I ended up buying it at Bi-Mart for 69.99 on sale. I am pleased so far with the tent...though we haven't camped yet. Set it up in the yard, and it is big enough. The vestibule is great, though slightly short, and looks like it will shed water well and suppress wind and dirt in the tent. I can just stand up straight in the center of the tent (I'm 6 ft). I also bought a Coleman double high queen air mattress($54) and set that up in the tent(very good decision)...plenty of room to arrange the furniture(even diagonally). I set up another queen air mattress next to it, with a little room between them, and a good amount of room to move near the front of the tent. My wife commented numerous times that it looks like a turtle...which isn't a bad thing. Very green!
