This light does everything the product description says it does. Here is what they don't tell you it does that you might want to know about before you buy:

It has tiny green led battery meter lights that light up all green when the battery is full, if the light is on they are on......always. The position of these three green lights are right above your eyes when you wear the light on your head so they shine light at your nose and eyes. To me this seams very annoying so I covered the battery lights with some black tape and solved the problem.

Now on to the bad part. This light does not lock or click or go into any sort of off position. There is a dial that lets you select blue, red, low, medium, or high settings. So where is the off position? It is between the red and low positions on the dial. Is there any sort of detent or notch to prevent the dial form rotating to the on position? No, no there is not. Is the dial protruded with little points on the outside edge to turn it on easily? Yes. I have never been able to use this light, I put it into my backpack and off I go. Later that night I pull it out and it is dead, the dial rotated into the on position and ran the battery down, awesome. Gave it a second try, same result.

Now I lost the receipt, damnit. I would trade this for a cheep petzl any day.

This headlamp is marketed by Coleman a major U.S. brand in the camping/outdoor industry. The designer failed to notice a major flaw which renders the device useless. The product was probably designed using CAD, produced without a prototype to test. When you rotate the body of the headlamp to move the LED beam angle, the battery lid will pop out, spilling out the battery case. This is caused by a combination of a loose battery lid and the battery pack applying pressure to the lid. Do not buy this product until Coleman solves this flaw. If you purchase one already you can take the spring holding the battery case snug inside the headlamp body. Without the spring, the battery lid will not rotate as easily.

I liked the blue and red light options a lot, but I only used it a couple of times the first night out. While not using it, I wore it wrapped on my wrist, and at some point during the evening the battery case popped open and spilled the batteries who knows where. Not good!

The lighting for this lamp was adequate. My main complaint has to do with the battery cap. Even after tightening the cap, it had a tendency to come loose while in my backpack. While camping at night, the battery cap fell off and I was unable to find it. Without the cap, I had to hold the battery pack in with my finger otherwise the headlamp was pretty much useless. I didn't think much about it and planned on calling Coleman for a replacement part. Unfortunately, when I contacted them and explained that the headlamp worked and all I needed was the battery cap, they stated they could not sell me that part separately and I would have to purchase a whole new headlamp. When I told them I was not willing to buy a new headlamp from them just for the battery cap, they offered me a 25% discount if I bought the headlamp from their website...which was $40.00. Not worth taking a chance on this headlamp knowing you can't get a replacement part.

Newly released model (2011) has a bright single white CREE XR-C spotlight LED in the middle (high, medium, and low settings) with two pairs of smaller, less bright LEDs in blue and red colors on the sides. Lightweight 3.5 oz total. You don't feel it much on your head. White light is very bright (even on low setting) and similar to using a brightly focused flashlight that has useful light spill all around the center. The colored LEDs are fine for close up work for saving night vision. I used the blue LED setting to trail run the other night and it was fine. You cycle through five light settings with a large turning dial on the side of the headlamp. The unit is hard, durable plastic. Can't tell if the lens is glass, perhaps is very hard clear plastic. Headband stays put. Light is easily removable from the headband for use, however the light sometimes comes off too easy when putting it on your head. Sometimes flips off the headband when I'm putting it on my head (a little aggravating, but not bad). Rated to be weatherproof. Looks to be durable. Good, solid, reasonably priced piece of outdoor equipment. I'd buy another in a minute.

There are three models in this series, so know the difference before you buy to ensure you get what you need:

2000002662 Coleman Axis Multi-Color LED Headlamp 2000002662(The one reviewed here) CREE XR-C White, smaller blue, and red light. 85 lumens / 6 hours on high, 50 lumens / 12 hrs on medium, 10 lumens / 40 hrs on low). Highest priced.

There are better and brighter headlamps out there that cost more but for the price this is a pretty good headlamp and with a max brightness of 106 lumens it is a pretty useful one, too. The only shortcoming I think that this headlamp has is that the switch becomes more loose as you use it and is easily moved into one of the light positions while it is in your pocket or backpack and burns battery power. And the blue light is just that--a blue light...it does not make blood glow to use as a game tracker.
