5.0 out of 5 stars Does it's job
I bought this and used it every camping trip I take. I find that it stands up and the height adjustable stand will raise up to a good height above my head. The lantern moves the center point of gravity a bit and at this point needs to be steaked down unless there is absolutely no wind outside. I used the coleman northstar battery operated lantern so i dont know how...

3.0 out of 5 stars They are almost worth the cash.
Years ago I purchased a set of lantern stands similar to these (actually they were less expensive but not coleman brand). They were all aluminum tube construction even in the tripod legs unlike these. They were rock solid and I wouldn't have had to replace them except that they got stowed in storage and were inaccessible and we needed new ones right away. These more...

I bought this and used it every camping trip I take. I find that it stands up and the height adjustable stand will raise up to a good height above my head. The lantern moves the center point of gravity a bit and at this point needs to be steaked down unless there is absolutely no wind outside. I used the coleman northstar battery operated lantern so i dont know how much more that weighs as compared to the propane version.

Pro: the lantern stand is awesome, will adjust to the height you want and stay there. Even with the weight of the lantern.

Cons: I think the stakes could have been better quality but it is good for soft ground. This also comes with green nylon bag with carry strap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great accessory for your lantern, September 15, 2005
This review is from: Coleman Multi-Purpose Lantern Stand (Sports)
This is a great item to use with your lantern, as I have been to some campgrounds that there were not any trees (great sand dunes) and many campgrounds where there just are not trees where you want light. Just open this stand up, stake it down and your set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best lantern stand I've ever owned!, December 30, 2007

This is the best lantern stand ever.
I always get compliments on it and everyone wants to know where I bought it.
You can buy new stakes to hold it down better than the ones supplied, just get the ones that look like long nails from Target or Wal-Mart. They work great!
Also, make sure after raising it to the proper height that you tighten it securely (with a firm twist), some friends tried to push the lantern out of their way and the stand collapsed. It has only happened once in all the times I've used it. I blame them, they blame the stand, you be the judge.
This is by far, the best lantern stand I've ever owned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lantern stand!, May 20, 2008
This review is from: Coleman Multi-Purpose Lantern Stand (Sports)
I bought this to replace the inutile E-Z Firefly stand and I was so impressed that I bought another one. The adjustable height is nice to have when you're cooking at night. And since I've either had my lanterns on the ground or table top, it's great to place it elsewhere so bugs can leave you alone.

Stable, holds a heavy lantern with no problem, easy to set up and take down, hold the lantern at a good height for use next to a typical camping table.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great multipurpose latern stand, April 20, 2010

This stand is very useful by keeping your latern high above ground to illuminate more area and very stable during high wind conditions. It also makes a good clothes dryer or hanger during the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended!, January 21, 2010

Last week I brought this stand along on two Boy Scout outings. We were in a fairly open snow field, piling up snow for caves (and then coming back a few days later to hollow them out and sleep in 'em). Both times, we didn't get to the site until dusk ... so I pulled out my lantern stand and dual-fuel lantern fairly early.

It was great! Almost nobody had headlamps or flashlights (what's up with that?) so it was VERY NICE to be able to shed light on a wide open area.

The stand sets up and breaks down easily. Getting it into the storage bag can be a little tricky (if you don't get the splayed feet properly stowed on the stand body) but it's no big deal.

If you are looking for a compact stand to hold your lantern up over your campsite then you have found it here. It comes in a nylon bag with shoulder strap and resembles those folding camp chairs but much smaller. Once out the legs fold down and are secured in the open position with a large knobbed screw. The stand then has two telescoping sections that extend and lock with simple twists. Once up the hanger bracket comes out of the top tube and folds out. Your lantern handle clips in and cannot accidently come off.
This stand works great and is definitely worth the price. It also comes with stakes to secure it down.

These more expensive ones have a rickety flat steel tripod leg construction on the same tube aluminum telescoping section. I would recommend these to any other style of stand, but for the money I wish they had built better value into them, especially being coleman brand. They almost got it right.... almost.

seen other stands that were barely 6 ft, meaning that your lantern hangs at eye level. this one gets it up above your head and throws more light. used it on 3 day camp in NM, did not need to stake down, but recommend it.
