1.0 out of 5 stars Broke 3 ways from Sunday on the first outing, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Coleman Deluxe Fish Pen (Electronics)
I thought this product seemed like a good idea. My son has a very small Star Wars closed reel pole that has terrific casting range. So I bought one of these. When it arrived, the packaging was very nice and the pole went together easily. I put a practice casting weight on it and realized there was something wrong with the reel. After spending an hour getting it to reel-in properly, I took it down to the lake. Within the hour, the pole itself had snapped in half during a cast. What really irked me was the blister the little gold clip on the handle left me with. Very disappointing product from Coleman.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's ok for tiny fish. But don't expect it to pull out a 5-6lb Bass, March 1, 2009

We took one out just for $***s and giggles to the local trout farm. It casted out about 60 feet and right away my nephew snagged a big one. The line snapped like it was meant to do. The trout had to be 4-5 lbs. So we took it to the bluegill pond they had for the little kids. He pulled in 5 or 6 blue gill before his hands starting getting sore. I suggest this for small fish for kids and adults, who don't expect anything from a 30" pole. Face it people, look what you get? It's not made to pull in a Marlin! Oh I got a piece of black pipe insulation to put on that tiny pen. It helps from the blisters of the shirt holder, and gives the pen an extra grip. We bought a couple of these for the kids. Did you really expect me to fish with it? When I go out fishing, it'd not with a 30" pole. I go out with the proper equipment. This is proper for bluegill and 1 to 2 lb fish. Nothing more. You might be able to "drag" in a bigger one, but don't bend the pole too much. Wear the fish down, then drag it in. Lift it up by the line, not the pole! Or *snap!* :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, June 8, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coleman Deluxe Fish Pen (Electronics)
Within 2 days of receiving the pole the telescoping mechanism was not functioning properly. We were hoping for a compact, easy to backpack with product and now that it won't go back into its casing, it certainly was not worth the money paid.
