This tent was great for us...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coleman 3-Room 8-Person Tent - 13x13 (Misc.)
We needed a tent for the five of us (2 adults and 3 kids), with plenty of room if the weather would keep us in the tent. I have some experience camping with more serious camping gear (Marmot and North Face), but needed a tent for all of us. This was a good price on a tent we will only be car camping from, and I liked the two seperate sleeping rooms. This tent got the acid test on the first trip out. We got to the camp site about 8-9pm, and it was completely dark by the time we got to our site and started putting it together. This tent was very easy to put up, and the directions and pictures on the bag helped. I have experience with other dome-type tents, and this one was as easy as any two-man tent. The poles are easy to figure out which one goes where, and after laying out the tent it was really easy. I had the tent up in about 20-25 minutes, and that is from opening the box to walking into the tent. I did it all myself with almost no help (can you relate?), and really didn't need it. I went ahead and put on the rain-fly, because it was going to be cool this first night (mid-50's). We all got settled in and about 11:30pm it started to sprinkle. I had not completely secured the rain-fly, so I got out in the rain to secure it. The tent held up great in the rain, and it really came down. It rained all night and there was no water in the tent in the morning. This was the most important feature of a tent I was looking for. With the size of this tent, its nice to have the larger room for games and sitting around in. There is plenty of room and has about a 6' interior height in the center. I would recommend this tent for anyone that is looking for one that they need plenty of room, and the weight is not a factor. jt

A great value for a large tent! easy to set up, Room for our small family 2 adults and one child and all of our packs inside. Tall enough to stand and change clothes in. Our daughter sleeps on a twin sized air mattress inside one room, our queens-sized airbed extends out into the main area. Sets up in 15minutes, including the rainfly and guy ropes...takedown in about five, folds/rolls easily to fit in the bag (with attached instructions that you won't need after the first go-round). After a 12-hour wind-driven rain I found two spots of water(less than a cup total), but I can't confirm whether this was from condensation or leaking, but I'll re-seal the seams anyway. Otherwise very dry! Two 9x12' dropcloths in an "L" shape make a cheap groundcover. Zippers on doors and windows are substantial and work smoothly. screen door zippers are trimmed with nylon tent fabric which is an upgrade from the tent I had(non coleman) which basically sewed the zippers right to the mesh, and separated in several places. You're probably not backpacking...so don't worry about weight and get the biggest tent you can! the "L" shape packs alot of floorspace in a small footprint! Two gripes, the rainfly really should come down to below the seam on the sides (the light/dark grey color change in the pic). AND, include some real tent stakes, or none at all! those rediculous bent metal stakes that they include are completely useless! When getting the tent, do yourself a favor and pick up a dozen sturdy metal or abs tentstakes! All in all a great tent, from a Company that really seems to own the family camping market...for good reason! *UPDATE 2003!* Exactly 365 days from my initial downpour test, I experienced the EXACT same weather and my previously dry tent leaks terribly! I've been sealing the seams just about every time I set her up, but was not prepared for water pouring through the walls! Whatever waterproofing was on the tent has worn off in the 8 trips I've used it.(abrasion from folding and setting up must take it's toll.). Still a great tent, but I'll never travel without an extra tarp again!

Fantastic tent for the weekend camper,
This review is from: Coleman 3-Room 8-Person Tent - 13x13 (Misc.)
This tent is very well constructed, and holds up well in the rain. Although it seems rain may get under the rain fly and go through the meshed roof in some areas, the rain fly does its job. We encoutnered a pretty bad storm the last night camping where there was 40+ MPH wind and very hard rain and there was no leaking or problems at all. Very roomy, I can stand in the middle with clearance and I am 6'2". The only problem I had is getting the tent back in the bag, which is nearly impossible. Coleman as well as other tent manufacturers need to start making stock bags bigger... We are not all professional tent packers.

I purchased this tent as a replacement for the Eddie Bauer tent I paid much more for 3 years ago. The Eddie Bauer tent seemed like a great tent, other than the fact that the zipper on the main door constantly "ate up" the fabric and got stuck .This got to be REALLY annoying, especially with three kids going in and out. Finally, on a recent trip, the zipper broke altogether, rendering the tent useless to us. We had to use duct tape on our last night to keep the mosquitos out! So... our replacement, after much searching, was this Coleman , and we love it.
It is spacious enough for both a queen sized and double size mattresses and the gear for 5 people. My husband and I loved the two "rooms" that form an "L" shape- it gave us the illusion of privacy although the kids were just around the corner. There was more than enough room for all of us to sleep , dress, and hang out comfortably. The ventilation is great, and the rain fly(although we have not used it in rain-yet) seemed to be much better than out previous tent, as it extended over the windows and doors enough that it looked to me, the rain would slide off and away from the windows and doors. It took us a little while to figure out how the rainfly was supposed to attach (hint-the Coleman logos should be over the doors) due to the "L"shape of the tent. I had to do the breakdown of camp solo-(well, three kids in tow, but no other adult) and it was a breeze to disassemble and it actually fit back into the duffel bag with ease! I think that this tent will serve us well for some time. The Coleman tent we gave to my parents when our family outgrew it has held up great as well and they love it as much as we did. I vote for the Coleman for affordability and quality both.

On first use, tent leaked even after seams sealed...,

This is a great tent when it is dry, but if it rains you are in trouble! The rainfly is relatively small and the seams leaked awfully even after they were sealed.
Take a really big tarp along if you think there might be a chance of rain, otherwise buy a different tent that actually keeps the water out.

Big Tent--Small Problems,
By Jenny "Jenny" (Kansas City, Mo USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coleman 3-Room 8-Person Tent - 13x13 (Misc.)
We are a family of four--two children under 4--who do a lot of camping. This tent fit everything wonderfully. No problem with all the baby stuff. Our first trip last season, it poured the the first night and did not leak. The only problem we had with leakage is the condensation between the fly and tent dripped in. We also experienced problems with the zippers getting stuck on the seams. On our last trip last season, one of the main poles broke. Coleman doesn't cover the poles in their warranty and did not offer replacement poles. After some searching, I found a company in Washington called Tent Pole Technologies who were able to provide us with a replacement pole for $35 including shipping and handling. Although I believed at one time that the tent was a good deal for the size and features, it won't stay that way if we need to keep replacing poles.

Easy to set up, roomy, and quite rain resistant. My daughter and I went camping in Vermont as a test run for the tent. It rained every day. I would guess about 1/2 cup of water got in the tent.Good performance. It does need to be staked out and the stakes that come with it aren't much good

I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!,

We are thrilled with our purchase!!! We have camped in the Ocala National Forest with this tent in 2 days of MASSIVE DOWN POURS! When my husband and I walked around the park in between rain showers, we realized how GOOD this tent was! Pretty much 75% of the campers had their entire campsites turned inside out trying to dry out their sleeping bags and such. We have really enjoyed how well built this tent is in addition to how easy it is to set up! The inside has lots of storage compartments too. The only goofy thing is that the room dividers don't connect close enough to the walls to offer any real privacy. But, I'm sure that is necessary to keep the air circulating. If you can swing it, treat yourself to this larger tent. It's been nice to have a room for supplies, a room for sleeping, and a room large enough to stand up and hang out in during Florida's rainy season. We are thrilled with our purchase and highly recommend it. Your search is over, GET THIS TENT!

Coleman 3 room tent,

Did not mean to buy this tent (bought it at a slient auction, only bidder for it), but it has come in very handy especially when taking along two teens with bikes. They can put 2 haro bikes in one room, a roll up table with a TV and PS2, and two chairs in the big room and 2 sleeping bags in the other room. handled rain well, but had been sealed by the previous owner. The boys loved it and it is easy to put together. Very important to me.

Great family tent but one drawback,

We just came back from our second trip out using this tent. Love the spaciousness and ease of setting it up. However, two of the poles got bent and we are unable to find any replacements for it. Have looked all over and are unable to locate the poles we need to repair it either on or offline. That seems to be the only major downfall to this tent.
