The pump functions well, with good airflow, durability. The batteries have lasted for quite a while, although it takes 4 D. It worked on my non-coleman bed and comes with a special adapter nozzle, so I would not worry about that. I was going to buy an aerobed until I found this pump. The rechargeable pump was not available.

The Quickpump accompanied a queen-size Coleman inflatable air bed. The secret to using the pump successfully is to let it run for 5-10 minutes after the mattress first reaches it full size. Stopping too soon will result in an uncomfortable mushy mattress that folds around you every time you move. Even if keep the pump running until the mattress is very firm, it's easy to lose it when removing the pump from the valve. Pay attention to the instructions and take advantage of the double-valve feature to avoid losing the most air. In retrospect, I wish I'd spent a little more money and purchased an Aerobed, thereby avoiding the hassles of the battery-operated pump.

I disagree with the comments about its strength and the nozzle.

2.0 out of 5 stars this pump has asthma, May 9, 2003

I purchased this item to use with my air mattress when camping. I was very dissappointed with this pump. I used brand new batteries and a brand new mattress when using the pump the first time ...and still the pump struggled to wheeze a few puffs into the mattress. It took a pathetically long time to get any air into the mattress- and once it got to about 65% filled- it seemed to just give up. At that point the air it was losing and the air it was providing seemed to stabilize and nothing could get it to fill anymore.
Before this purchase, I owned a more expensive Eddie Bauer air mattress with the pump attached. This worked wonderfully, especially when camping, and I miss it terribly. However, with four cats in the house, even a mountain of protective blankets and other spreads can't save the mattress from the inevitable claw and so I have had to resort to more disposable mattresses. I sure wish someone would make a cat resistant air mattress with a built in pump.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too weak to finish the job, March 17, 2006

I've had this pump for several years now and it can never inflate the mattress to a comfortable firmness. Even after 10 minutes on fresh batteries your bum will hit the ground when lie down. So, you'll still need a manual or just get a more powerful pump.

Given the weakness, its still beats having the inflate the mattress with the manual pump. So 5 minutes with this pump and a minute with the manual pump is enough to get the right firmness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coleman Quick Pump, February 1, 2009
This review is from: Coleman 4D Universal Quick Pump (Sports)
We've found this to be a great product. We use it to inflate, and also deflate, a 2 person inflatable kayak. With the pump it takes about 5 minutes, with most of the time spent opening and securing air chambers - not hard. If we tried this with a hand air pump I'm sure it would take more than ½ hr of pumping. This is a good way to pump a lot of air rapidly, in or out of whatever needs air. Be warned though, that this is a relatively low pressure air pump - you're not pumping tires or basket balls. The pump moves a large volume of air at low pressure. It might be nice if the air pressure were a little higher, but that might be enough to pop the inflatable kayak, so I don't know - it works.

We got the version of the pump that uses 4 D-cell batteries. We wanted to be able to inflate our kayak way off the main road and beaten path. The batteries work fine for that. We get several inflates/deflates from a single battery pack, but it might be wise to always bring a spare set of new batteries along. Noise levels are not too loud - you'll definitely hear the pump, but there's no hearing pain, or loss of hearing, involved, just normal noise.

I recommend the pump. It's great for the kayak application, and I'd bet it would be great for pumping up inflatable beds, etc - anything where you have to move a lot of low pressure air.

4.0 out of 5 stars The little pump that did, everything., May 19, 2005

On a trip with the Boy Scouts, I picked up an airbed cause I am getting old (27). This little pump blew that mattress up in no time flat. Then it went on to be used like a billows for the camp fire, where it was once again,"like a champ!". There are only 3 problems with this handy little guy. 1 it is noisey and 2 it's heavy (4 D batteries) Not good for a backpack camper but then why would you need a pump then anyway?. 3 No carry-ing sack. All and all, I would buy it again because it is a "Champ" all the way and then some.

After spending last weekend sleeping on hard-packed soil, I bought an air bed tonight and picked one of these up at the same time. The air bed is a cheap full size non-Coleman brand and this little bugger filled it to a very comfortable pressure in about 5 minutes.
Inexpensive, efficient, compact and lightweight.
I'm very impressed.

A little slower than an electric pump, but when you are traveling to places where there is no dependable electricity, the speed of an electric pump is a little use to you. This one will air up a twin air mattress is 5 minutes or less and deflate it even faster! Nice to have!

I have this battery powered pump and it works, but the electric version will fill the mattress to a much more firm comfort. It would be nice if the pump was AC/DC like a radio, and came with a longer cord and cigarette lighter adapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars CAREFUL - this does not fit all inflatables!!!!!!, June 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coleman 4D Universal Quick Pump (Sports)
From the photo it looks as though this would inflate most inflatables (beach balls, cheapo air mattresses, pool floats, etc.). But it does NOT. In fact, in will not inflate MOST things.

If you are looking for a portable inflator, this is NOT it. Unless you only need it for the matching Coleman mattress.
