5.0 out of 5 stars The best coffeemaker for those who love coffee outdoors
This Coleman drip coffeemaker is the ultimate indulgence for those who love to make coffee outdoors. Why sacrifice the quality of your coffee on a camping trip? If you love camping and you love coffee, get this maker...forget any other method (unless, of course, you absolutely don't have the room such as when backpacking or you have electric available at your campsite)...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd stick with the perculator
I received this as a gift two years ago. It does make good coffee and eliminates the coffee grounds but, hey, isn't that part of the fun of camping? HOWEVER, a MAJOR flaw and FIRE HAZARD is that if the handle is turned just a little bit to the left or right - not at a 90 degee angle, the handle melts and renders the carafe unusable. With many people picking up the pot...

This appliance looks to be made by Mr Coffee for Coleman because Mr Coffee carafes do fit (I've since learned the corporation that owns Coleman owns Mr Coffee). The machine uses round basket paper filters, and it's somewhat slower than a home unit, but it will make up to ten cups. One caution here: be sure to keep the handle on the carafe pointing straight out the front when brewing; if it's hanging out toward the side, the handle will get hot and it could melt if your burner is turned way up.

I've also used this coffeemaker on a gas range during a power outage and it worked just fine.

Love coffee...love life in the great outdoors...Coleman helps you get there. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have camping accessory, January 11, 2007

This coffee pot made a big hit with the adults on our Boy Scout troop campout in October. We actually had great tasting coffee in record time compared to our old camp percolator. We were actually able to make two pots in less time than it would have taken for one with the percolator. It was also great to heat water for hot chocolate and oatmeal! Not for a backpacking trip, however as it is pretty bulky. I will probably also purchase the cloth carrying case soon to keep it protected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious coffee in the outdoors, November 23, 2003

I really love my Coleman coffee maker. After cold, sleepless nights, sliding down my sleeping bag, it's wonderful to wake up to a good cup of coffee. Say good-bye to weak coffee with grinds floating around from those inadequate percolators. We camp with 3 other families and the adults are all hanging around my coffee maker for their morning cup o' Joe. For those of you who love coffee and only sort of like camping, this is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coleman Camping Coffeemaker, October 13, 2008

Coleman 5008C700T Camping Coffeemaker, Black I have been using the Coleman Camping Coffeemaker for several years, now. It has held-up well, despite the glass carafe, and does not look any different now than it did when I bought it.

The Coleman Coffeemaker works just like any home drip system, with several small differences;

1. It is slower - even with a hot camp stove, don't expect to be sipping a cup-of-joe in less than 15 minutes.

2. There is no visible gauge on the reservoir. You have to measure the water using the carafe, adding an extra cup to account for evaporation.

I have recommended the Coleman Coffeemaker to several friends, and they have also been happy with it. Note that it does take a fairly hot stove (~10,000 BTU) to work well, and the stove needs a nice wide surface for the coffeemaker to sit on; it will not work with a smaller round-burner stove.

Just as good as a electric coffee maker. I use a small bunji cord that goes around the pot and unit during transit

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive! Great coffee!, June 2, 2005
All I can say is WOW. This things works awesome! The coffee is fantastic; tastes even better than my electric Bunn coffeemaker because the coffee brews slowly. The coffee maker works perfectly on my camping stove, and the valve is extra-nice; I can get a cup of coffee while it's still brewing. WAY better than spitting out coffee grounds and/or bad tasting coffee. Easy to use and clean-up. I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only way to start a camping day, September 3, 2007
I was skeptical about this product. The idea of having drip coffee on camping mornings was just too good to be true! Three weeks and forty brews convinced me that I made the right decision! On my 10000 BTU Propane camp stove, coffee was ready in fifteen minutes and tasted like coffee I make at home. I have been delighted and can't wait for my next opportunity to fire it up. I just grind a few pounds of premium coffee and head out knowing that among the many delights of camping, I will have a great cup of coffee whenever I want it.
My only wish is for a perfect carrying case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven sent for group camping, November 29, 2008
Does what it's designed to do. It makes great coffee at your campsite.
It brews fast (ten minutes) on a Coleman stove that's protected by a windscreen.
However, my pot once took 45 minutes to finish on a mismatched burner/grill setup.
One windy morning, brewing didn't even start until I improvised extensive wind protection.
Once you get the setup right, you'll be delighted with the results.
As other reviews note, you must keep the pot handle centered.
I pour the brew into a pump Thermos dispenser so others don't touch the carafe.
"Roughing it" once meant enduring percolated coffee.
Thank you Coleman for your gift to outdoor Java Joes.
