5.0 out of 5 stars BRRR....It Is Cold Inside
We live at least an hour away from the big box stores and membership stores and it has always been difficult to buy cold and especially frozen foods and get them home in time before they thaw out. This ice chest lives up to its name. We have filled it with frozen meats and even ice cream and let it sit in the car for several where it got like furnace. When we got home...

I camp a great deal and was looking for a cooler that will keep camp foods cold for several days. The importance of the length of time the ice lasts is crucial since I often travel to remote areas where the nearest store that sells ice could be 15 miles which doesn't sound far but when you have to make that trip every day or two it gets old quick. This cooler was the best of the lot from reviews I have read without spending $200 on a pro grade cooler. This cooler is ok - it will keep food cold for a couple of days if the temp is moderate and if you minimize opening the cooler, store it in a shady spot (not in your hot car). It is an okay cooler that will serve casual users well. I just might end up laying out the money for a really good cooler though.

This ice chest lives up to its name. We have filled it with frozen meats and even ice cream and let it sit in the car for several where it got like furnace. When we got home the food was still frozen solid. All we had to add was a bag of ice and the insulated cooler maintained a freezing temperature until we could get home. Certainly worth the investment!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Coleman 52-Quart Xtreme Chest Cooler (Blue) (Sports)
I purchased this cooler a few weeks ago. Since then I've used it 4 times and I've been pleased every time. The first time we used it was on our vacation. The cooler was filled with ice when we left and the ice lasted for a 9 hour drive on an extremely hot day with minimal melting. Upon arrival, the beverages were still nice and cold.

I also used this for a family party. I filled the cooler with ice and three cases of water with room to spare. The cooler sat on the deck all afternoon and everything was still cold at the end of the day.

The only downside to the cooler is the fact that it does get pretty heavy when it's full and there are no wheels. Something to consider if it needs to be moved alot. But, if it's used outside, there is a nice drainage spout so that would lighten the load a bit at the end of the day.

All in all, I highly recommend the cooler.

For those Home Brewers looking for a mash tun...please note you will need a 2" nipple for your ball valve and bulkhead to connect properly.

I got this cooler to make a mash tun. I'm using a stainless steel braid. Holds a lot of grain and a lot of water to make great beer. I also have the 70qt one too when doing even bigger batches.

After 5 days we still had ice (and the cooler was stored in the rear of the suv with daytime temperatures around 85 and evening drops to 40). Need I say anthing else ... or I think that sums it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars so far so good, July 12, 2011

Just used for an overnight so far, but real happy with how cold everything stayed, with 3, 2 litre bottles of ice. Packaging was great, shipping very quick. Going to be some good cruises and camping coming up.

edit. Well, this cooler is so good I have to take my bottles of ice out of it so they'll melt and I can get some drinking water. I love this cooler. 5 days using 4 2liter bottles of ice, and I have a lot of ice left. Days in the low '80's, nights low 60's.

Perfect for our use. It gives you an extra day or two before all the ice melts. God bless Coleman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Xtreme cooler is great, November 7, 2010

We took the cooler camping the same day we got it and after three and a half days we still had most of our block ice and even the ice cubes we took along for drinks were in great shape. Only melted a little. I would recomend it to anyone, as we have gone through a lot of no-good coolers in the heat of Arizona,
