We've had this flashlight for two summers now and taken it on multiple camping trips. It's held up GREAT with two very young kids. We've had other brands that break easily, but this one hasn't. Jan 2011 update: We still have this flashlight, and have since purchased a second one so there's no sharing. The kids still love them.

I bought this for my 4 year old son. He loved the flashing lights and figured out that one the buttons makes the light show follow different patterns. It is pretty bright and has held up well.

The quality of this flashlight is good for the price. It's true, as stated in other reviews, that the batteries don't last long in this flashlight. The flashlight can be used as a flashlight, a night light that glows orange, or as a "light show" where the different colored lights flash in several different patterns. I would suggest three improvements: directions as to what the different buttons are and how they operate the different functions of the flashlight; a button that can be depressed and held to operate the flashlight (to minimize battery use); and, an automatic turn-off feature. Overall, I like the flashlight and so does my three year old son.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter wanted Santa to bring her a flashlight. She always plays with my husband's, so I wanted to get her one that was for kids, just for her. This one is perfect. It was much smaller than I expected, but that's okay. It seems durable, and it is actually really bright. The light show is a nice feature.I also like that it has a cord, but has the safety snap, so it will unhook under pressure- just in case. A little pricey for what it is, but overall, a good buy!

I bought the flashlights for my grandsons which are 4 and 6yrs, and they just love them, they use them for camping in their own tent with mom and Dad and are having alot of fun with them. I am very happy with this product and hope to shop again soon. Ruth Ross

This is a cool flashlight for kids. My 2 year old loves it. However it really needs an LED as the main light. The run time is quite short when you have the main light on. It uses a regular incandescent PR2 bulb for the "flashlight" mode. I upgraded the incandescent PR2 with a $6 1/2 watt LED replacement [...] and now the the burn time and light output is much improved. I would absolutely give this product a 5 star rating if it came with the LED to begin with.

It seems like a good flashlight, but it keeps breaking. The company did replace the broken ones, but I'm tired of asking and waiting for the new ones to arrive. We'll be getting a different one.

I chose this flashlight for my daughter after some careful research and after coming to the conclusion that there are no guarantees, no bests, in flashlights made for children. Last I checked, the flashlight she had before this one (a piece of garbage firefly flashlight by Melissa and Doug that broke in several places in the first week) had essentially the same rating as this one.

I can't tell you how long it'll last(nor will I make empty promises to update this review), though ours has been kicked around quite a bit and is still working perfectly almost 6 months later. Battery life is great, and the 'party light' LEDs have been a hit. My daughter works them into her creative play in different ways and they're like a beacon to her little sister. You take the good with the bad, I guess.

My only gripe is that the switch is set up with the regular light setting in the middle, which not only makes it more difficult than it needs to be for a child to use, but is an illogical setup for *any* flashlight.

In any case, this one is a winner, and at this point if it broke I would buy another...at least until she's ready for a Fenix of her own.

While the side lights are LED, the main flashlight isn't. I specifically bought this for the LED feature and longer battery life. I was bummed to learn it was a conventional light.

The flash light is 'cool' for an older child(5 & up)because you have tiny movements on the switch button that is hard to control with 'little fingers'! Now...if dropped(like my grandson did)look to see if the bulb inside(the bright one)is still intact or broke. His little flashlight bulb broke. I would look for a CHILD FLASHLIGHT that has a long time reputation!
