This reel extension unit works just like I had envisioned. It's heavy duty 12-gauge for multiple power tools, good length to get around my shop and driveway, and extends and retacts just fine. Yes, it is big, but that's what a 12-gauge 50ft reel is going to be in footprint. Now, you could make this setup cheaper with a 50 or 100ft cord and manual reel, but I needed to hang mine on a 10ft. ceiling. This product works, it's big, and no problems noted on quality or mechanics.

Works as advertised. Unlike the first poster, I have had no problems with this unit. I have it mounted on the ceiling, and the retract function works flawlessly. It is a welcome addition to my workshop. Highly recommended. Oh yeah - the thing is BIG.

Always hated to wind and unwind electrical cords. This cord reel is easy to use. Just pull out as much cord as you need and it locks in place. The 12 gauge wire is nice as I own many portable tools that require a heavy wire.

I purchased this product and 3 months after the warranty ran out, the retracting spring just let go and now it won't roll back up. I probably wouldn't have written this except that in the last 15 months, I have used it less than 12 times !!!!! Buyer Beware.

I bought this reel as a gift, but after inspecting the retract funtion, there was no way I was going to give this as a present. The retract function rarely worked, and once we got it to lock the cable out it wouldn't retract, we tried the directions and mounted it in the horizontal and vertical positions, nothing worked. For the time it took to get the cable to lock out I could have un-coiled an extension cable and coiled it back up. End result: for $100 it just isn't worth it. If you need 12 gauge cable the get a Reelcraft, if you don't buy the cheap $40 reel.

This is my second one of these with the first being of a different brand. The first one I had the spring broke as happened with another reviewer with this brand. I know after my first experience to not let the cord go flying back in but to gently let it retrieve. Also be careful to not take it out to full extension and be extra careful during below freezing temps. This one from Coleman has worked flawlessly.

Purchased this reel for occasional use in a pole barn. We hung it from the ceiling. After about the 10th pull over a 6 month period, the internal plastic broke. We took the cover off of it to see if it could be repaired. Everything except for the sring is plastic. The spring pulled loose out of the plastic mount. The internals are plastic welded so it is can not be serviced. Basically I spent over $[...] on an extension cord I could have purchased for $[...]. The label on the reel cover stated for light duty use only. It should have said not for actual use.

I have had this reel for about 8 months. I have used it about 20 times. It is not an industrial strength reel, so I treat it accordingly. When I rewind it, I walk it in. I don't just let it fly back. With this reasonable amount of care, it has been great.

I really like the plug receptacle. It is clear with a small light in it to let you know you have power. It is has three plugs and the shape is a T. The T shape acts like a handle and makes it easy to reach up and pull down. I have seen others that have three plugs and are like a V. I thing the T is better.

It has 50 foot of 12 guage cord. The leader cord is also 12 guage (I have seen others that use 14 guage on the leader which defeats the purpose of having 50 foot of 12 guage cord).

Another reviewer commented on the size being large. In my opinion, I don't think it is. I have it mounted on the ceiling next to my garage door opener, and the whole unit fits above it.

I bought this reel for my garage, it worked well for about a month and then I pulled the cord out to about 25 feet and the spring broke. I emailed the company looking for a fix, and never got a response. I really would have liked to give a better review, but the company's non response results in this product going to the garbage.
