5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my mower and trimmer
Bought this for my Black & Decker Mower and Black & Decker grass trimmer that I also got off of Amazon. Both do not include a power cable, so you'll need something like this.

As gauge gets smaller the cable gets bigger. So 16 gauge cable is smaller than 12 gauge. 14 is right in the middle. Bigger cables can take more power (amps). The mower is 6.5 amps...

This extension cord has two great pros but one very serious con.

Pros:

1) You don't want an extension cord that is not rated for the amps you need. Otherwise you'll burn up the motor in your equipment over time and ruin your device. This extension cord delivers 13 amps over 100 feet which is great. I can run my 12 amp snow blower or my 12 amp...

The mower is 6.5 amps and the trimmer is something less than that, so this cable is plenty for either of them (not at the same time.. although it might do that just fine, who knows.. I wouldn't try it).

Easy to tug around, fits snugly in both devices and is bright to see and easy to coil. Couldn't really ask for more.

This summer I gathered up all of my beat up construction extension cords and replaced them with two of these. A vast improvement - this line is easy to see when on the ground, very strong, and easy to wrap up and store.

This cord is so sturdy, dependable and safe, that I came back and purchased a second one. This is the cord for you, if you work outdoors with electric. Great Product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Met my expectations, June 30, 2009
I bought the Coleman Cable 02409-88-04 100-Foot 14/3 SJTW Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord, Red for my Homelite UT43100 (14", 9Amp) electric chain saw, even though the manual calls for lower AWG (12/3 or 10/3) when using cord longer than 50' due to loss of power. However, Coleman claims that this cord is sufficient to deliver 13 Amp up to 100', so I gave it a shot and bought it. I cut wood for 30 minutes and didn't notice any underperformance of the chain saw or potential overheating of the cord. I'm very satisfied with this product. For storing the cord I purchased the Bayco K-100 150-Foot Cord Reel.

1.0 out of 5 stars Potential fire hazard, January 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This extension cord has two great pros but one very serious con.

Pros:

1) You don't want an extension cord that is not rated for the amps you need. Otherwise you'll burn up the motor in your equipment over time and ruin your device. This extension cord delivers 13 amps over 100 feet which is great. I can run my 12 amp snow blower or my 12 amp leaf blower and know their electric motors are protected. Check the amp rating before you buy any cord, and do not run extension cords in series. The extra distance will create resistance and drop the current the cords can deliver to your equipment.

2) It stays very pliable even in cold weather. I first used the cord on 12/19/2009. Our community (DC/Baltimore area) got 21.5 inches of snow: an all time record for that day (12/9), an all time record for the month of December, and one of the top ten single-day snowfalls of all time for our area. (This was as all of the politicians were flying back to Washington DC from the Copenhagen so-called "global warming" summit and all of the regional airports were closed because of the record snow. What irony, eh?) Anyway my electric snow blower can only handle snow depths of up to 8 inches. So I had to clear my driveway, go back out hours later & do it again, repeat several times. I left the cord outside in subzero temperatures for 24 hours. It was very easy to manipulate in even the coldest of temperatures - a vast improvement over my previous extension cords.

Con:

The plug is oversized and consequently won't fit snugly in all sockets depending upon their size. BE CAREFUL. If you don't get it to fit snugly, a loose fit can cause the wires to overheat and start a fire. One other reviewer claimed a fire happened to him and I have little doubt that this is the cause. I plan to keep using my extension cord because I'm aware of the problem and will double if not triple check every time that I use it. However I cannot recommend anything that is a potential fire hazard. The plugs should be redesigned to be smaller. A simple fix, but until then beware!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tips are a little big, August 23, 2009

I purchased this cord in combination with Green Leaf WW-1 Wonder Winder Hand Crank Extension Cord Winder and they went together perfectly.

My only complaint about the Coleman Extension cord is that the tips are a little on the large side. They measure just under 1.5 inches which is only slightly larger than my other extension cords. This extra is just enough to make it difficult to connect some of my electric yard tools.

Otherwise, the cord appears to be of good quality (and much better than I expected from Coleman). It has heavy-duty sheating and thick gauge wire, but is still flexible enough to use and wind. There's no signs of the cord heating up when used with my electric mower like my other off-brand Home Depot special cord (of the same gauge).

The cord itself is a bit on the heavy side, but that's expected for a cord of this gauge.

I only use this product in the fair weather of California so I can't speak of its sub-zero performance.

Not one problem, except the weight. 100 feet of cord is heavy, at least heavy for an older person. I do not see that as a problem, however.
