Unlike the Coleman Skin Smart Aerosol version of this product, the pump sprayer does not have an obvious locking mechanism. Wish they had just put one of those semi-standard clear plastic caps on it. The picture does not show it, but the white portion on the top pushes into the orange cap to dispense the product. There is a tiny word "lock" on the top, and if you notice that and twist the white part there is a click that stops it from spraying unless it gets bumped and unlocks.

Sooo... good product, but don't plan on tossing it in your backpack without some sort of cap or container to keep the sprayer from being accidentally depressed. Follow the link to the aerosol version for my review of the actual repellant.

I bought directly from Amazon, and they tossed it in a box with some other items... all of which ended up with this product on them. Enough leaked out (from the pump being jostled during shipping) that the box showed stains on the outside.

I've tried at least three kinds (all available on Amazon). This one is my favorite because, first of all, it's been extremely effective; secondly, it has no smell whatsoever and thirdly, it does not leave a "greasy" feeling after its use.

So, we've been blessed with the plague that is the asian tiger mosquito. These little bastards are the most unconventional and resilient of any mosquito. While normal mosquitoes are only out at dusk and dawn, these things are out all day. While normal mosquitoes need a fair amount of water to breed, these guys need barely any. And surprise surprise they also are not as caring about certain repellents.

Combine that with our desire to not use DEET and all of its chemically goodness, i decided to give this a try.

Effectiveness?
I think it DOES do what it's supposed to do, but i don't think what it's supposed to do is repel, it's not a scent that mosquitoes don't like, it's a scent that hides our human aromas that they are attracted to. Mosquitoes sense our body odor, our CO2 breath, and our heat. This spray tries to cover up as much of that as possible.

The problem?
If you miss even a square inch of your skin, the asian tiger will find it. Me being me, i like to do with as little of things as possible, and soon found out that that approach just won't work with this stuff. If you're going to use it, USE it. don't be shy about the application, it's you or them, don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes, or something like that...

DEET replacement?
I read up on as many alternatives to DEET as i could find, theres a couple, and this seems to be one of the more valid ones, is it a full on DEET replacement? i don't think anything will replace DEET, DEET is the hardcore insect bodyguard with fully automatic weaponry, but it's because of it's raw power, that many people such as ourselves don't want that added health risk along with our insect solutions.

Great non-DEET product that WORKS! Purchased because it is safe for children and infants. Works good and lasts for several hours. Highly recommended.

I just came back from a camping trip without ONE bite, and I am a mosquito magnet. It works as good as any DEET products I've tried, but with ONE BIG DIFFERENCE- NO SMELL!!! This is a big deal for me, considering I will sometimes not go outside with my daughter after work because I know I'm only going to be out for a little while and I don't want to have that DEET smell and feel on my skin. This uses IR3535 as the repellent. If you want to read more from the Environmental Working Group about the different repellent options (pros & cons) go here: [...] and for more info, here: [...]
I live in NH and have a 3 year old. We need to be very concerned about Lyme and diseases mosquito carry. I have been happy with this product. Do be careful, though, as it can harm some plastics. I left it on top of a table in my home and it took some of the finish off :-(. The EWG guide does warn of this. Good luck!

Finally, a bug spray that works and has absolutely no smell. Even the deet loving hubby was impressed with how it kept the bites off. Unfortunately, the lack of a cap to keep it from leaking when in a bag is a major flaw. So keep your old stinky spray bottles because this one is no good for traveling.

Pros:
- not greasy & seems to work, just be generous on application, don't miss a spot.
- it says odorless but I can still smell a little sweet scent (nothing bad at all)
- smart dial spray lock (you have to look really close to see it)
- good price with free shipping (promotion price, less than five dollars)
Cons:
- no secure pump cover to prevent accidental leak during shipment

Moderately effective, it seems to do well at repelling mosquitos but not so much chiggers and other burrowing insects. I had better repel rates for the latter with DEET based products.

It does feel a little greasy when first applied and clothing should be kept away from treated areas till it dries some so it doesn't just wipe or become absorbed away because it is a fairly (thin) low viscosity.

Doesn't smell much like chemicals but until it dries you can definitely smell it, a faint alcohol chemical smell but no fragrance added. Does not appear to stain clothing, or at least nothing that won't come out in the wash later.

The spray application leaves something to be desired, you either get a lot of overshoot or have to hold it close enough that the spray bounces off. A cream based product might be less wasteful, but at least it's still less wasteful then pressurized aerosol cans, and far less greasy feeling than a cream so it may be the lesser of 3 evils.

Overall I will look for something else but if I can't find the *ideal* value priced product I might buy it again to hold me over till I do.

Doesn't stink, doesn't give me a headache, doesn't make my skin feel icky, and keeps the bugs away. I avoided using mosquito repellent most of my life because the repellents made me feel worse than the bites. I don't hesitate to use this. Only the mosquitoes know it's there.
