The 4-person Coleman Exponent Northstar tent is designed to meet the needs of serious outdoor enthusiasts who want a premium basecamping tent with a modern, roomy cabin style. The Northstar X4 sleeps 4 people comfortably in two rooms. You can convert one room to a screened porch by rolling back the rainfly to reveal mesh walls, or lounge in the shade under the oversized awnings that stretch the entire 14-foot length of the tent. Enjoy stargazing out the two skylight panels. The Northstar X4 measures 12 by 7 feet with a 6-foot peak height. It features four doors for convenience and flexibility, two dry-entry vestibules for gear storage, a screen room at one end, and a side awning that can be erected above a door on either side of the tent. All four doors have mesh panels for ventilation; the interior roof is an expansive mesh area, while zippered fabric panels in the sleeping quarters provide outstanding ventilation control.
The full-coverage rainfly with taped seams ensures weather protection. A clear window in the fly matches a zippered window in the tent, for letting in sunlight or gazing at the night sky. Premium 6061 T6 series aluminum poles are lightweight and convenient, yet provide excellent structural strength for withstanding wind and rainstorms. The poles feature variable tension with color-coding to simplify setup, and are field-repairable. Quick-clips that attach the tent to the frame poles make setup quick and easy. The space created between tent fabric and frame structure also allows excellent ventilation between the tent and rainfly. I can't review the "camping quality' of this tent quite yet, But can say out of the box it isn't like any tent I have owned before, I'll start with the tent case itself, which is a excellent design in itself. It unfolds and has three generously sized compartments that are completely separate from one another. 0ne containing the tent, the bottom part of the case or middle contains all the thick aluminum poles and the third section has the rain fly and on the tent pocket is a small Velcro enclosure clearly labeled "instructions". When all folded up it has clips that keep it together and a decent carry handle to tote it around.
Now the tent itself is quality material I have not owned in a tent before. The material feels thick and much more stable compared to cheaper tents. The mesh on the windows of the tent also feels very sturdy, one disapoinment is the zippers seem about the same as any other tent, so only time will tell. The floor is a thicker material that is definitely better than other tents, the other tent I have is a Coleman Sundome and the floor in that tent is like a tarp material while this one is a smooth thick material it is roomy on the inside and feels very sturdy compared to tents that use fiberglass poles the rain fly is just as thick as the tent material which makes me believe it will contain heat well. The only cons I see with this tent is that it is heavy, I wouldn't want to pack far from my truck and also it comes with the same cheap tent stakes that all tents seem to come with. So I will be upgrading those to the MSR groundhog ones.

I just got back from a musical mud fest with Severe thunder storms. The X4 has plenty of stake ropes and points. The front screen room provided a secure place to wait out the rain. During one scary burst of wind I stood up and hold the corner loops. This tent stood up to the wind. It is also water tight. A cooler "sweat puddle" evaporated quickly after mopped with a towel.
