Great basecamp tent!, May 28, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Exponent Northstar X6 Tent (Sports)
My wife and I purchased this tent as a basecamp tent for 2. I was a little leary because of the odd shape and I have always stuck to dome tents for their rain protection. The Coleman Northstar X6 may not be a dome, but it does have full fly coverage and bathtub style floor. It is a 2 room tent with one room setup as your sleeping area with 2 windows and 2 roof flaps that zip/unzip to regulate the inside temp. The other room is all noseeum netting and setup as a screen room.
This layout was perfect for my wife and I. We had a fullsize, double height deluxe aero bed in the bedroom with 2 coleman corner storage units and it felt very cozy and roomy. In the screen room, we also had 2 coleman corner storage units and, when it rained, 2 zero gravity recliners. It was tight, but comfortable.
I put the tent up for the first time (at the campground without a practice run) in about 20 minutes BY MYSELF. I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't been me doing it. Now, that didn't include the fly. I needed help from my wife to lift that huge fly up and over the tent, but then the 2 of us working together had the fly in place, latched and locked within about another 10 minutes. Not bad for a first run.
On our first outing with the new tent, it rained off and on for 2 days and steady rain for hours at a time. After setting up the tent, I had seamed sealed the bathtub floor wear it meets the walls, but not the fly which was factory taped. The tent didn't leak a drop of water and that's with the awning up at times. I was super impressed.
I've owned Kelty and Eureka tents, but never a Coleman. This was my first and I'm very, very impressed. I'm told that this tent is one of their premier tents and I believe it. It was expensive, but I think it's the best tent I've ever owned. The thought put into the little details like having 2 awnings on either side of the tent, 2 see through windows in the fly, loops (for hanging things) inside the tent that connect to the poles outside for strength, power cord ports, 2 vestibules, zip open/close roof in the bedroom, etc ... It's a great tent.
The one thing to be warned about is this tent does NOT come with 5 awning poles like all the websites claim. It only comes with 2 AND their is NO 14 foot awning. The door in the fly on either side can be made into an awning by using the 2 poles, but only one side or the other, not both. However, I do believe with extra awning poles, you could rig up a 14 foot awning, but it's not part of the original plan. I called Coleman's hotline and got the 3 extra awning poles for free even though they told me it was a misprint. If nothing else, I can now have both awnings up at the same time.
I love this tent and I'm excited about my next camping trip hopefully rain free.

Excellent Family Tent, November 8, 2010
This review is from: Coleman Exponent Northstar X6 Tent (Sports)
We used this tent on a three-night fall camping trip and it was perfect. The inner room was insulated nicely and got very warm on the cool nights. Our whole family slept in the inner room comfortably (two adults, one preschooler, and two labs). The full-coverage fly was something we were very happy to find on this large tent. The entire tent is very spacious- my husband and I can both stand up inside and we're not short people. Our gear was easily stored in the outer room. A perfect 3-season tent. We can't wait to use it some more in the spring.

Disappointed, April 19, 2011
This review is from: Coleman Exponent Northstar X6 Tent (Sports)
The tent is fantastic but it's not the one I bought from Amazon. The tent from Amazon was sold as used but when I received it was unusable because it shipped with the wrong poles for it. So I returned it without any hassle and received a full refund from Amazon. The tent I ended up with came from a Coleman Outlet in Minnesota. It was more expensive than the one from Amazon but it works great.
