We love this fryer. After reading the first review, we decided to calibrate the thermometer before cooking and it was a good move because the thermometer was off by 20 degrees. The first time we used it we had to make over 100 wings for a picnic we were going to. It worked great, but the reheat time was a little more than expected. The only fault we found is when you lift the cover all the condensation falls onto the controls. We camp often and this will come with us every time.

The heat-up time took far longer than expected. As this was my first experience with a "non-automatic", dealing with a thermometer was an issue. What made everything complicated was the given thermometer was about 100 degrees off. After burning the first few batches of clam cakes I decided back off on the heat. I later checked it with candy thermometer and found it to be way off. Otherwise, the piece is well made, starting is safe & sure, & the basket holds a good amount of food.
We got this to cook outdoors at the lake as well as at tailgate parties -- it fits the bill just great -- after you get the temperature right.

Cover wouldn't latch well. Flame kept going out. Handle in the wrong place to lift lid, steam comes rising up when you lift the top and burns your hand. Returned the item as defective because the burner kept going out. Cover hit thermometer when lifting.

Sturdy and well designed,

Its been a great addition to my tailgating gear. It a little small for larger crowds though. My thermometer doesn't actually sit in the oil correctly. I wish they still had the carry case available. I love that the oil well is removable for east cleaning. The controls are a little touchy and it can be hard to keep a constant temperature, but otherwise it works great.

I used this for the first time Saturday cooked drummettes for football game made a good addition to my tailgate gear to have a easy way to deep fry without a lot of set up.I am going to get a digital temp gauge to make it easier to see when I am sitting on my butt drinking a cold one.
