Product Description

The Coleman FyreStorm Stainless Steel Stove is a high-performance, compact stove that offers power and versatility in a pack-friendly design. The FyreStorm conveniently runs on Coleman fuel, butane/propane canisters, or unleaded gasoline. With a canister, the stove burns at 14,000 BTU for 45 minutes, boiling water in just 3 minutes, 10 seconds. On liquid fuel, it burns at 10,000 BTU for 75 minutes, boiling in 3 minutes 30 seconds. Either way, you get precise flame control from simmer to full boil, on a stainless-steel large-diameter burner to distributes the flame evenly. Serrated pot supports and magnesium-alloy legs provide a wide, stable cooking surface. Reflex technology requires no priming or preheating, reducing the time from start-up to full ignition. A liquid withdrawal system for canister fuel offers improved performance in colder weather or at high altitudes. The FyreStorm requires low field maintenance, and features a built-in cleaning needle. The FyreStorm comes with a refillable 22-ounce fuel bottle, liquid-fuel pump assembly, butane canister fuel adapter, stuff sack and aluminum windscreen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, flexible stove, July 6, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coleman FyreStorm Stainless Steel Stove (Sports)
I have now purchased this stove and used it on a few outings.

I'm thoroughly impressed with this stove. It's well made and very capable.

Pros:

- This stove is easy to light and use with white gas and unleaded fuel. I use a magnesium fire starter, which allows me to light the stove without getting my hand right in the vapors. There can be challenges in wind, but of course, I've never seen a multi-fuel stove that didn't have that problem.

- It uses liquid extraction from the butane cartridges. This means you use the cartridges upside-down, and it pulls the fuel out of the can as liquid. Most butane stoves use the canisters right-side-up, pulling the fuel out already in gas form. The problem is that the gas doesn't move through valves very well, and most stoves end up losing power when you still have half the fuel left. This stove (and others that use liquid extraction) use all of the fuel in the can.

- Its triangle frame/base has good stability on uneven ground. It can support a large pot fairly securely.

Cons (these are minor):

- For the cost, I'd expect the stove to come with a case. It doesn't. It does come with a fabric sack, but it looks like it will fall apart quickly, and it has no padding for the stove parts. Coleman does offer an accessory padded soft case just for this stove, and it's good quality and inexpensive, but I think it should have come with the stove.

- The stove burner, and its fire ring, are fairly large. I suspect this gives it the benefit of lighting easily and burning evenly. But it means that if you are heating water in a smaller container, much of the heat goes up the sides of the container. This is somewhat inefficient, but moreover, it can really overheat the sides of the container, and even if the contents aren't super hot, the container sides could be plenty hot enough to sear your skin. Be careful. If your pot has a removable handle, make sure to remove it while heating. I view this as minor though... if the burner were much smaller, I'm sure it would have other disadvantages.

- Getting really nitpicky here... all of the fittings come with rubber protective covers... a Good Thing. But none of them are tethered, and it will be really easy to lose them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fyrestorm is a backpacking stove and works well, July 14, 2009

The Fyrestorm an excellent stove and is made specifically for backpacking. It will burn Coleman fuel, unleaded gas, and the inverted butane/propane canister (adapted included). It is also lightweight (7.7 for Ti and 9 for SS) excluding canister.

Note that the Coleman Denali and the Fyrestorm are totally different stoves.

There are other options and stoves. However, I don't think that the majority of backpackers are going to lug around a green heavy steel propane canister to light their stove. Most will use a Coleman fuel or gasoline or some type of butane-propane canister for the sake of weight reduction.

I have used the Denali and the Fyrestorm and they both are excellent. Both held up well. They do light differently. The Denali does take a bit more finesse to light. I would encourage one to practice lighting their stoves before embarking on their trip. I would not hesitate in buying either one. Again, these are backpacking stoves and are made to be lightweight. One has to base their decision on weight, fuel type and availability, altitude, cold weather, and heat production.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, January 23, 2009
This review is from: Coleman FyreStorm Stainless Steel Stove (Sports)
I bought this light-weight, high-priced, multi-fuel stove as a backpacking/car camping/emergency multi-use stove. When I got it I found you can't use the ubiquitous 16.4 oz green propane canisters. You have to purchase a "special" Coleman propane/butane mix sold only in specialty camping stores not 7/11s, grocery stores, CVS etc. The screw-in connection is non-standard. This makes this multi-fuel stove worthless. You have to buy and lug around their specialty fuel.

I have always loved the practicality and functionality of Coleman products but don't waste your money on this one.
