4.0 out of 5 stars Good Tent for the price
I purchase this tent and used it the next day. The good: Lots of interior room, enough for 2 adults and 2 small backpacks. I was even able to fit a queen size coleman inflatable mattress inside(At home to test it)with room to spare. Very easy to set up, I read the instructions and timed myself, it took me 10 minutes. With screen mesh all around it was very comfortable,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Heavy & bulky
I bought this tent for motorcycle camping, thinking that the single pole design would make it very compact to fit in my luggage bag, but I was disappointed. What they don't tell you in the description is that it has a POLYPRO floor, which makes it very bulky and heavy, and the pole sections are fairly long. All in all, when rolled up it was no smaller than the 4 pole...

With screen mesh all around it was very comfortable, even with the Texas summer heat. Comes with a 5 year warranty. The bad: At 6 pounds Is a little on the heavy side for most solo backpackers(I personally don't mind the weight in exchange for all the room). The tent isn't free standing, make sure to get good stakes for hard or rocky ground. It didn't rain when I used it, so I can't comment on how waterproof it is, but I always seal the seams on all my tents as soon as I buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tent at any price, Esp. at $50, June 1, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
I just got back from Great Smoky Mt. National Park and my brother and I used this tent for 4 days of backpacking. It turned into 4 days of rainforest like climate and this tent didnt leak a drop. There were some substantial downpours at night that had me nervous about the money I had saved on buying this tent. The tent held up great. Just like any tent that I own it was sealed prior to the trip. Just like it was mentioned in other reviews you should prob. invest in better stakes as the tent is not freestanding so good stakes matter. The ones that come with it are the cheap metal kind that come with most small tents. I do have to admit that weight was a little much for backpacking but for two people you cant expect much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooligan 2 Backyard Review, July 7, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
WOW! this tent is amazing. It had enough room to sleep two comfortably. It also had a vestibule for wet shoes or boots and maybe a backpack. Like most places the weather in my back yard was in a dry state so my dad and I tested it with the gardening hose. At first we did the regular rain and it was completely dry except for under the vestibule where the velcro on the door wasn't closed. After that we did the thunderstorm in which he aimed the hose directly at the tent and it still did not leak. After that I spent the night in it. When I woke up the next morning it was completely dry, and there were no dead bugs like in my bad, store brand tent that I had previosly. I would definately give this tent five stars and I would recommend it to friends and campers/backpackers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooligan Tent Meets and Beats Expectations, January 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
Here are a couple of quick details about me and what I was looking for with this tent. This is my third tent purchase. (see other reviews on Amazon). I am tall at 6'5" and needed a tent that was long enough for me and had plenty of space for my gear or big enough for myself and my 8yr old...or the dog if he is up to going on a trip. For most, this tent has the room for two adults.

The tent needed to be light enough for hiking. For most people, this tent is too heavy for hiking, but I can handle a little weight so it's not a problem. If trekking out with a partner, split the weight and you will be fine. For car camping or motorsport camping, the size should be great.

I needed a tent with a bath tub bottom and a full rain fly. The Hooligan floor is the same material found in the Sundome line. It's thick, moves up the side by several inches, and is waterproof. It generates the most weight, but it worth the protection from the elements. Plus it has a decent sized vestibule area for boots or packs. The fly is totally taped, but I decided to waterproof it anyway with additional seam seal and proofing spray.

I needed a design that could be setup when on my own. The base stakes down with 4 stakes. The single pole is SOLID. It is at least twice the diameter of the Sundome poles and is designed for strength. Inserting the pole into the pegs may be difficult when the 4 main stakes are not positioned correctly. 2 more stakes to support the pole and you're done in good weather. The rain fly provides even more support. If it's cold or windy, you will definitely want to pack and use the fly. Still, on my own, I setup this tent in less than 10 minutes with the fly on within 5 minutes.

I have wanted this tent for months. When the price dropped to $33, I jumped on it. This is a great tent and worth considerably more than the current price tag. Window and door venting works well. The full fly is awesome. The tub bottom is great.

A couple notes: there is a single pouch on the inside for out of the way storage, but there is not a loop to hang a lantern. I used the zipper loops and it was ok, but I plan on sewing my own loop on at the tent apex before my next outing. 5 stars all around. I will likely buy a second tent to have as a spare or for others to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars great kid's Tent!, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
We really like this tent- and it was a great buy. Very quick and easy to put up, took less than 10 minutes! I like the way it can be just a mesh screen so you can see the stars at night- or the view while napping!

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR BACKPACKING, August 30, 2011

This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
I bought this tent for backpacking. This is a pretty good tent when not backpacking, especially for the price. Its a great car camping tent though. Folded up its very big and takes up A LOT OF ROOM IN THE BACKPACK. Its also HEAVY. Look at the WEIGHT before you buy! Those are two main criteria when I am backpacking. Keeping weight down and saving pack room.

5.0 out of 5 stars One More 5-Star Review, November 6, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
One of the first things that struck me when I was considering this tent was the great reviews, and maybe more importantly the absence of any bad ones. Even the good products usually have a least a one or two bad comments, but this tent didn't. So I bought one and now I know why. Right out of the box I could tell by the quality of construction and design that it would be a great tent. Having said that, it doesn't seem really necessary for me to add anything to what others have said about this tent, except to echo their reviews. I love this tent and can't find anything wrong with it other than getting better stakes (I recommend the MSR Groundhog... there a bit pricey but worth the cost). I use the tent for motorcycle camping and can't imagine a better choice. I'm one of those people that likes to spend time in my tent having coffee and reading, especially when the days are short, cold, and rainy, and for just myself the tent feels very roomy and comfortable. I can set up my gear around me within reach... stove, coffee pot, snacks, lantern, etc.... and it's very cozy and "homey". As others have said, it might be a bit heavy for backpacking, but it's perfect for motorcycle camping. I would absolutely recommend this (and have) to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tent for the money!, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
I purchased the tent for a long camping trip. The full cover rain fly with vestibule, and the size were what caught my attention. I knew it would rain on the trip so i needed a tent that would keep me dry. It rained two days in a row and did not leak a drop. And that was without spraying or seam sealing the tent! The vestibule comes in very handy; though can sometimes be tough to get in and out of. It is definately a one person tent, two people would be a stretch with your gear inside! The one pole design makes it easy to set up, but make sure you have the tent corners staked down first. The full cover rain fly makes the tent pack down a little larger than most "backpacking" tents, but it is worth the extra weight and size for the unpredictable weather!

4.0 out of 5 stars jda, July 19, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent (Sports)
Bought this tent for a camping trip in the Catskills over the weekend and it did a great job. Arrived on a Friday night, in the pouring rain, and the one pole design made for a quick setup. Though, I would definitaly suggest getting better stakes. (the reason for the 4 stars)

Slept two people comfortably...with a small bag.

The massive door and window on the back made it very to easy to air out during the day.
