2.0 out of 5 stars bulky bag
I bought this bag for my son's back packing trip in the sierras. I have another Coleman bag that is not to big for a pack. This took up over half the pack. Way to bulky and heavy. It is probably a great car camping bag.

I bought this bag and took it out backpacking at White Sands National Monument in NM in Jan. A winter storm hit the day before I left and it was COLD out there. I'm not sure of the exact temperature, but I know that it was either high teens or low 20s. My waterbottle and my dog's water bowl both completely froze throughout as did the condensation on the outside of my tent, and my car was a big ice block when I got back to it in the morning. The bag actually did pretty well. I pulled the face hole as tight as I could and just cuddled down inside the bag without sticking my face out (it was too cold if I put my face out). I have Raynaud's disease and my hands/nailbeds often are very cold and turn blue in cold weather from poor circulation, but they were nice and warm inside the bag without extra gloves on. I was impressed by that. Overall I was ok, but not as warm and comfortable as I would have been at home in my own bed of course. It did it's job and kept my appendages warm enough and me alive in what could have been hypothermia conditions without the proper gear. My only real gripe about this bag is that it is huge when it's rolled up. It's too big to fit into the sleeping bag compartment of my NorthFace backpacking pack (so I imagine it's too big for any), and it takes up a very large portion of the pack when stuffed in the only way it will fit. Due to this reason I wish I would have gotten a different bag. It would be great for anyone who is just setting up their tent right next to their car, but not the best choice for a backpacker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps warm at a reasonable price, February 13, 2010

This review is from: Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy Bag (Sports)
I received this bag the day of an over-night "Cold Camp" adventure. I had fears as in the previous year, my prior bag was not up to the single digit temperature task of keeping me warm. Much to my delight as this bag arrived at my work, I found that it was plush, fabric felt nice, and had a good weight to it. I understood that with the lower price of this bag, I wouldn't be getting a 0 degree bag that was as light or as small as my summer bag, and accepted these "issues". After opening the included Coleman carry bag, I knew that it would be a treat to get the bag back in there. Do yourself a favor and pick up a medium sized Compression Sack. This will make travel for you and the bag MUCH easier.

The bag was put to the test that night as the temps dropped rapidly from the teens to the single digits. I was fearful throughout the evening as we cooked our hot dogs and brats. I saw the Coleman North Rim bag sitting beneath my lean-to tarp shelter. I feared how cold it would get, but alas around midnight, as everyone made the slow move to their bags, I hopped in and immediately felt wonderfully comfortable. My chest, head, and feet (as soon as damp socks were removed) warmed up in short order. I couldn't have asked for more. A huge bonus is the bag has a "curtain" that adds some extra insulation between your head and shoulder area. It acted a bit like a pillow for me, and aided in keeping me toasty warm.

Stats on evening:
Bag: Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy
Sleeping Pad: Big Agnes Insulated air core
Tent: NA (Open air lean-to)
Fire: Nice hot coals approximately 6+ feet away
Temperature: 5 degrees Fahrenheit
Wore synthetic long underwear and sweatshirt in sleeping bag.

I can not comment on longevity of this sleeping bag. Been used once, but feel it will last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine all season sleeping bag...for base camp use., March 7, 2010

First thing, my thanks to others here who took the time to write a review on this product. Those reviews were a big help to me in deciding whether it suited my needs.

As others have said, this isn't a good sleeping bag for backpacking, too bulky. But for people like me, who mostly set up camp near their car/truck, this sleeping bag is a fine choice.

When used in combination with a insulated sleeping pad (I have a Thermorest), the bag can be unzipped and used like a comforter, unless the weather is very cold. Having a big "sock" for the feet makes it easier to stay under the covers. The insulated head cover can be employed in the same way, keeping the head warm while anchoring the covers too. I've now slept under this new bag for four(4) nights, in the way I described, under mild temperatures. It's been very pleasant, the insulation returning my body heat comfortably. I have confidence that this bag would provide sufficient reflective warmth to below 20 degrees, at least.

One note: My new bag needed about twenty-four hours to air out the chemical aromas that were present. So plan on unzipping it and hanging it up for at least half a day, prior to sleeping in it for the first time.

We bought two of these sleeping bags, one for my son and one for me. My son slept fine, in 20 degree weather, but my feet got cold. So, while it didn't quite meet the zero degree expectations, we slept better than most of the other guys. All-in-all, a pretty good sleeping bag!Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag

4.0 out of 5 stars Realistic Review - Great All Around Bag, September 8, 2011
This review is from: Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy Bag (Sports)
Before we get into reviews one must remember the most important thing.........this is a $50.00 bag! That being said I think it is the best overall value for a 0' zegree mummy bag that is ideal for a number of uses. I have had an immense amount of camping experiences over the 27 short years I've been around. I am an Eagle Scout and have camped in all sorts of conditions all over the United States and Canada. Now dont get me wrong, this bag will not compare to my $300+ North Face sleeping bag but who wants to take a $300 dollar bag camping with your freinds on a local hike or to go car camping for a weekend? The Northface bag is extremely light and only needed when hiking on long treks where extra weight cannot be tolerated. This bag provides excellent value for several reasons. It is warm enough to take camping anytime of year. I live just outside of Seattle and have used this bag in summer and winter. Although it is not an ideal weight to be packing up and down mountains, it is more than fine for a leasurly hike (1-7 miles) for a night or two. It is just right for my 6'3''-6'4'' frame (although any taller the head covering will not fit). Overall I would rate this bag a 4 star simply for its wide range of uses. Anything from a younger child sleeping over at a friends house to an overnight trip in mid-december, this bag provides the simple basics that a sleeping bag should. Ample warmth, reliable construction and reasonble portability. If you are looking for a moderatly priced but good all around sleeping bag I couldnt reccommend a better bag.

I did not purchase this bag through Amazon. It was at a local Outdoor Emporium for $49.99 and they had one on display. Similar bags to this one on display were $90-$120 and I liked this one more than most of the more expensive bags. Cant go wrong with this if you are looking for just a good ole' simple sleeping bag.

I attend a college in Upstate New York, just south of Canada, so in the Winter it gets COLD! The other week, we had a massive snow storm and the heat in my dorm stopped working... The temperature outside was about 3 degrees. I got into my sleeping bag and was nice and warm, and comfortable through the cold night!
It is a great product!

I purchased this Coleman 0 Degree Mummy Sleeping bag Coleman North Rim 0-Degree Mummy Bag
for my son, who is in Civil Air Patrol. In July, he went to a school held in the New Mexico desert. He did NOT want to be cold after spending all day in the HOT sun. He loves the bag. It's easy to use, and has all the features he needed. He never got cold! He's wondering why we didn't buy this before.

I bought this for my 10-year-old son for his boy scout camping trips. He used it once so far during the month of January and said "Thank goodness for that sleeping bag, I would have froze without it". The low was about 20 degrees overnight.

As other reviews state, it is quite bulky and heavy -- not for backpacking, but great for camping outdoors. And the price at [...] with free shipping was just perfect!
