If you are looking for a picnic blanket that wears like iron and can withstand any punishment, you can find them on line (for $100+). But if you are looking for a decent, versatile picnic blanket to keep in your car and put down when you want to have an impromptu stop at the park with the kids, this is what you want. As a "blanket" it would only be marginally functional because I don't think it is all that warm but better than nothing in a pinch. As a poncho, it is a bit awkward but again, functional in an emergency situation. As a picnic blanket it's just right and the size is much larger than most other blankets out there. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is that it is a bit tricky stuffing it back into the built in pouch. I can see the pouch splitting over time if a person is not careful.

I ordered this based on the great reviews. Liked the blanket in person and how it converts to a poncho and stadium seat. But there is one big flaw. In the blanket mode there is a opening in the middle attached with small bits of velcro. The velcro barely holds the opening together and is scratchy making this a major design flaw. Since I plan to use it primarily as a blanket I am disappointed. Not worth the return shipping hassle so I will keep it. But Coleman should fix this. Anyone have a fix?

I've only used this item as a park blanket, but for what it costs, this thing is a great deal for its size. Repels water, provides a soft surface to sit on. Its convertible qualities make folding a bit tricky, but not impossible to get the hang of.

This blanket has an opening in the middle which is great for placing the beach umbrella.

Since it folds up to the size of a newspaper folded in half, I keep it in my trunk for emergencies.

This blanket was easily the best purchase I have made recently. It's versatility in going from blanket to poncho to picnic tarp is bar none best. One side is soft fleece while the other is waterproof nylon. Whether on the beach or on dewy grass, there's no worries about water seeping through and ruining any potential romantic destinations. As a camp blanket, it's light enough to take the place of a sleeping bag (depending on conditions). One can freely lay it across a pile of leaves (which are dry on top but wet underneath).

Having praised this blanket, it's time to move on to the one and only con; When wearing this blanket as a poncho, the hard plastic velcro strips tend to poke right in the forehead or the corners will dig into the scalp. The discomfort it can cause is sometimes unreal. Also, the hoodie (that the blanket tucks into when stored) makes for a slightly smaller and less open-faced opening than I would like.

For picnics, I would recommend purchasing a small sized neet sheet to place the food on as there is simply not enough room for two people and food containers.

The choice is in your hands now, may everything work out and you enjoy this item as much as I do.

We use this when traveling with our kids. Great for impromtu picnics. Easy to fold back up in itself and use as a pillow for long car rides. I'll keep it in the car always.

The blankets worked great - kept my soccer kids warm and dry when they were off the field - easy to keep clean too!

We spend many hours at softball and soccer fields and when it gets cold this Coleman 3 in 1 blanket makes a hugh difference. No wind goes through it and the fleece inside is warm and toasty!

I carried this with me all summer long. It's not extremely bulky when enclosed in it's pouch, stays dry and clean with the waterproof side down and is cool and comfortable on the fleece top. Cleans easily. Great for picnics.

We bought this original for our family daycare. We wanted something soft for the kids to crawl on when outside. The inside is so soft. I also use it for softball games either as a blanket for cold games, a seat cushion for benches, or some place for my younger son to have a snack. It was in the back of our truck for a long time and I grabbed it as a pillow for a long car ride. Definitely worth every penny.
