Lovely idea - terrible execution.,

What would be nicer than a lovely, civilized frozen daiquiri or icy margarita on those hot summer camping trips in the wild? Yeah, that's what I always thought too, so I've been waiting for years for a battery-powered blender to come along. Not a bit surprised when Coleman ended up to be the first company to try it. Only problem is - it just doesn't work.
The blender is well designed on the outside; handsome pitcher and solid base. Even has a nifty compartment to hold the AC adapter and the car lighter adapter so you don't lose them. What a nice idea to even include both for maximum flexibility! I thought these guys had it nailed. But, of course, if you're buying this, those are just thoughtful extras. You need the rechargeable battery part to work, and I'm afraid it very simply doesn't. Struggles to accept a charge, and doesn't hold it. Either that, or the motor on mine was busted - not really sure. What I do know is that it's heavy, and if I'm gonna drag it along camping, I better get me some margaritas for my trouble. Sadly, this blender failed to bring forth even a single, lonely margarita. It really boggles the mind how something with such a giant, purpose-defeating flaw (which is apparently commonplace based on the reviews) would ever make it to market. But that's Coleman for you - plenty of brilliant ideas, but build quality and general execution can be hit or miss. And the Coleman Rechargeable Portable Blender: EPIC MISS.

A River Runs Through It!,

My Coleman rechargeable blender RULES. I purchased 3. 1 for myself and 2 for friends who are fly fishing guides. One of them just told me his tips are way up based on Margarita breaks with clients. I carry mine in my drift boat and it's perfect for blended cocktails on the river. Look, my blender at home is more powerful, but it doesn't work in the middle of nowhere! My Coleman crushes ice and makes a drink that far exceeds anyone's expectations.

Well, I purchased one of these blenders for an obvious purpose. From day 1 it did not work and would not charge. I have an Associate of Engineering degree, so I started to look for the problem and found it. It seems that Coleman (or the OEM) installed defective gel/SLA batteries in these units (there are two inside the base). I contacted Coleman and they replaced the unit with another one with the EXACT same problem! I decided to purchase two new batteries (6V 4.5Ah) on my own, replaced them and the unit is GREAT! This came at a cost to me, since the batteries were $30. Oh well, but no one else offers such blenders and I do like mine...now that it works.

Poor reliability and company response,

Purchased because of reputation, for wife to make margueritas, last fall. Charged ok then. Made 4-5 drinks and left at camp this winter. Tried to recharge this spring, took three times on 110v. Made one drink and the battery was gone. Recharged again, same results. Sent Coleman a complaint on 8-13-09 and here it is 8-20-09 and not any response. Perhaps Coleman has gone overboard in trying to get too large in the camping world, too fast and lost reliability and customer satisfaction.

I bought this blender a few months ago for my summer camping trip. It worked great for me. I made several batches of frozen Margueritas without draining the battery. It is a bit heavy (due to the large battery I'm sure), but in return it delivers decent power. You do need to lock the top in place before the power button works.

We got this to take out on the boat and make blender drinks with ice - always important when the heat index is 110. It is a little heavy and we use an ice bucket to stabilize it, but works GREAT!. We went with the heavier one that will blend whole ice cubes and make a greater amount. This item a must for hurricane parties -- with or without the hurricane.

Not Recommended,
This review is from: Coleman Rechargeable Portable Blender and Lid (Sports)
Was given this as a gift to use on our boat. Worked well for about 15 uses then was temperamental and had to play with the button to get it to turn on. Kept in garage that winter and wouldn't recharge the following spring.

This is my first review EVER! Nothing much to say here but DO NOT BUY THIS Blender. Right out of the box it did not work, I charged it for 18 hours and all it does it make a clicking noise. It was a Crap shoot and I lost, I wont even return it...it went right into the garbage.

Blender Has Problems With Batteries or Charger...,
By
This review is from: Coleman Rechargeable Portable Blender and Lid (Sports)
I purchase the general version of this blender, charged it and was able to blend twice before it stopped working. I returned it and upgraded to the marine version hoping it would be more durable but it died after on trip out and would not recharge. As a note, I found no difference between the marine version and the general version other than the marine one is silver with blue lights. Not sure the reasoning for the cost differential.
I took the second blender apart and checked the batteries and found one to be dead and not chargable. With both of the blenders that I purchased anyway, I could never tell when they were fully charged. The LEDs come on one at a time until they are all on, blink out and then repeat the process. I had assumed you would know it was charged when they all stayed on but that never happened even after repeated overnight charges. My opinion is that the charging device in the blender is not appropriate for these types of batteries and unless you are very careful in charging, the batteries are overcharging and being destroyed. Very dissapointing to say the least. They should all be recalled. |
