5.0 out of 5 stars I own two and couldn't get through the winter without them
We have two of these lanterns, and I am buying a third as a gift for my son who lives in the DC area. But we do not use ours for "outdoor" activities as the introduction would lead you to believe.
We use ours every time we have a power outage - usually in the winter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre light output
We have one of these lanterns and find that it doesn't put out enough light to be very useful, especially on the low setting. Even at the high setting it puts out just enough light so you can see to not trip over things in the dark.

We like the fact that it's rechargeable by either 12V or 110V so that we don't have to keep supplying it with batteries.

We use ours every time we have a power outage - usually in the winter.
After using them, I just remove the bottom door and plug them into an outlet so that they will be fully powered the next time we need them - no worry about batteries leaking, or being 'borrowed' from the lantern for use in a toy...........
They get us through our 'darkest days'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for camping and emergencies, May 22, 2004

This lantern is great for camping and power outages because you don't have to mess around with propane, especially important with small children around. I noticed that this one offers a 110 recharge, ours doesn't. Only 12V. It would be even better with the 110 option. One downfall - I have had a difficult time finding replacement bulbs. I recently found some to get it ready for this summer and the price of the two bulbs was almost as much as buying a new lantern.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and great light source!, December 7, 2004

This little lantern puts out a tremendous amount of light without the safety hazards posed by candles, propane or kerosene lanterns. We use ours for camping and for emergency lighting during hurricane season and it never disappoints. Also great for those trips out to the yard or garage in the dark since it's much brighter than a flashlight and not much heavier.

5.0 out of 5 stars quiet light, April 21, 2004

I didn't want to use a propane or other fuel lantern, they seem so dangerous and they are so noisy. I was also tired of buying D sized batteries. When we found this lantern, we were thrilled and it was great when we were camping. We used it every night for at least 3 hours a night and it hasn't needed recharging yet. We plan on buying at least one more for our next trip.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, November 13, 2005

I've owned two of these things and, in my experience, these didn't live up to Coleman's usual high quality. If you drop this thing on the ground from picnic-table height, kiss it good-bye. The plastic holding the batteries in on the bottom of the lantern is hard and is easily cracked.

Additionally the fluorescent light just isn't aesthetically pleasing if you're camping. If you're using it out back by the pool, maybe, but not by the fire in Yellow Stone.

Go with the gas lanterns, better quality and better light.

I use this all the time, indoors and out. The only thing this wouldn't work for is lighting up a campsite. You'd be able to see at a campsite, but not too well. If you are on top of the lantern you can read by it, but it is mostly for general use.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty decent, October 26, 2006

I've had this Coleman rechargeable twin lantern for years, and I think it's pretty reliable during those situations when the electric inexplicity goes out. The only problem is that the lantern has to be recharged every few months, even if you aren't using it. For some reason, it just needs to be charged frequently.

After it's fully charged, how long does the light last? Probably 8-10 hours. That's usually enough light to see my way to the bathroom at night, and enough light to let the dogs out or whatever I need to get done. Of course, if the electric in my house happens to be off for longer than two days, I will probably start running low on light. I've never been in that situation before, though.

The amount of light that comes out of this thing is pretty decent. Enough to light up the living room in my house (and I have a big living room!). We can see our way around quite easily. It's really a pretty good lantern.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, Execution Lacking, July 16, 2009
This review is from: Coleman Rechargeable Twin Tube Lantern (Sports)
The Coleman rechargable lantern is a great concept but not the brightest bulb. It recharges handily from either an internally stored 110 or 12v plug-in. Provides adequate light to find your way in a power out situation but not to read by ... at least with my old eyes. I suspect it's manufacturer discontinued by now as neither the Coleman site nor
Amazon stock it anymore. Tried to find a spec to replace the flourescent tubes. No luck on the web.
