Great Lantern but be careful,
By
This review is from: Coleman Signature Elite Lantern (Electronics)
I've been doing car camping for many years and I'm that kind of person who likes to have the best possible equipment for camping. In this sense, I had many lanterns from different brands and using different fuels and by far this is the best lantern I ever had.It is brighter than other lanterns (different brands and some other models from Coleman too). I compared it with a Primus (butane one mantle) lantern that I own, which is excellent for backpacking due its compact size, and against a brand new Coleman dual fuel lantern (double mantel) of some friends. By far the Elite Lantern gave the best light. Of course is was brighter than the Primus due to it uses two mantles instead of one, but also brighter than the dual fuel lantern. It has some pros and cons as everything in this life. Pros: 1. Is is brighter and comes with a reflector that helps to focus the light to the desired area. 2. It has a nice design and uses a kind of cone under the mantles to spread the light more efficienlty. 3. The knob has many positions to adjust the brightness level. 4. The light has a soft tone so it is not harsh on the eyes. 5. It is matchless due to the Instant star ignition system. Cons: 1. It does not uses the standard Coleman globe. It is kind of conic, which means it bigger at the top than at the bottom, and this globe is expensive than the regular globe, worth to know this just in case you break it. 2. Instanstart system works fine but you have to consider that you will have to push the red button many times before get the light on. 3.- Instanstart system won't work once the lanter is "hot" (due to the heat generated by burning the propane to get the light) and then you turn it off and want to turn it on again. You have to wait some time to cool the lantern. In this case it is better to use matches and be careful, beacuse the lantern can be really hot. 4. Is is not suitable for backpacking due its size (in my case I don't really care about this issue). At the beginning I used to transport and store it in its original box, but after some time and weather conditions while camping the box became usless, so i bought the Coleman's Soft Carry Case for Propane Lanterns and I'm pleased how it proects the lantern.
