Great tent at a good price,

This review is from: Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent (Orange/Gray) (Sports)
This is only the second tent I've ever owned. The first one was a real crappy sub $20 from Sports Authority. That $20 one worked fine for that one night I used it for but I vowed spend a little more next time and hope for much better quality. The 2-person $20 leaked a bit, was terribly cramped and was awfully humid inside. All of those problems went away with this Coleman. Here are just a few reasons why I'm very happy with my purchase:
First, the price was pretty reasonable. If you find another brand with a similar design for a little less, that's fine and all but I was happy to pay what I paid and get a Coleman - even someone that has never been camping before knows Coleman is pretty trusted when it comes to things like tents, coolers and anything you use outdoors. Second, I thought most of the other reviews here were pretty favorable. I'm just a guy that wants to head to a campsite 2-3 times a year and spend a night or two with my girlfriend. There was another review here about how it fit a guy and his fiancée with a queen size air mattress very well. That review pretty much sold me and it was spot on. I also learned that a queen size air mattress is actually a little smaller than a regular size full size you'd have in your home. That's still fine for two people but just don't think you're going to fit a giant mattress in there. The "queen" Coleman air mattress I purchased fit very well with ample room to spare. Third, I like the colors of this tent - definitely not a great reason to base your choice of shelter but I still like the way it looks. Fourth, It poured rain as we slept the first night. It was a pretty bad thunderstorm and it came down hard. There were not any leaks I could find. It also probably helped that this was a brand new tent, I'm pretty sure all tents will spring leaks as they get older and require seam sealer. Fifth, Ease of use - this thing goes up and comes down pretty easily. A child can figure this thing out and it fits in a bag that's pretty small and easy to manage. So if you're like me and just need a nice little tent for the occasional camping trip, this is a great choice. You can see how it looks in my pics compared to a giant 8 person tent too.

Coleman tent--waterproof as advertised,

I just came back from a two week trip where I had to use this coleman tent. It rained hard for 5 days, even snowed a little, and the winds were up to 30 mph, yet my tent stayed dried on the inside, and stayed up inspite of the wind! This tent performed as advertised, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I had a coleman tent of a similar design for about 7 years until the zippers gave out. This new design makes several improvements: 1. The supporting poles fit into a continuous sleeve...previously you had to thread each through two sleeves. 2. previously you had to tie the tent to the supporting poles at the top, now the continuous sleeve eliminates the ties. 3. The fly is now supported by a single pole over the top. 4. The rainfly appears more impervious to rain...as I had no drips from it in 4 or 5 days or showers.
However, all was not happiness. I was camping for several days in gentle showers. The 4 corners at the bottom where the walls meet the waterproof floor all weeped significantly. When I had a drier day, I tried to seal the seams at the corners. Another day of rain showed that I had successfully sealed the two back corners, but not the front. Bottom line: very easy to assemble, but may need some seam sealing to keep out the rain.

This tent has serious problems,

I read the previous review from Randy before buying this tent, but my father is an experienced camper and well-armed with seam sealer and waterproofing stuff, so I decided to give it a try. The price is certainly right. We sealed it up and sprayed on some of the waterproofing before leaving on our trip, and my family admired the tent. It's nice-looking and easy to set up. The one thing I didn't like is that there is no way to "close" the windows on the side--it's just the mesh. Definitely no good for colder weather!
Our first night camping in the tent was fine. It's the perfect size for two people and gear. It rained on our second night. At first everything was fine. I sighed with relief. The seam sealer had worked! But then... drip, drip. The corners started leaking, one drip at a time...and the drips started adding up to pools in each corner. We had some plastic cups in the tent and actually propped them in the corners to catch the drips! That solved the corners, but then the (seam-sealed!) fly began to leak. Not the whole thing, just the part where there's velcro sewn in--the velcro wraps around the poles to hold the fly in place. The stitching on this area was loose and poorly done. The corner leaks were bad, but the fly leaks were far worse. As I mentioned earlier, there is no tent material to cover the "windows;" it's just the bare mesh. So when the seams on the fly started leaking where the velcro is, those drops simply fell onto the mesh windows and into the tent. This made for a cold, wet, miserable night. The weather cleared in the morning. In the dawn light, I saw that part of the door zipper had ripped at the seams. After two nights of light use! We barely opened the door at all, as it was raining and we were huddled inside, or seeking shelter elsewhere. We eventually had to put a tarp over the top to keep the rain out. The rip was large enough that some bugs found their way in. I just finished filling out my return form. This is a poorly constructed and leaky tent; don't be seduced by the low price or the Coleman name.

My son & I went mountain camping in North Carolina. On the first night, it was windy, raining and the temp dropped to 25 degrees ( the rain turned to snow & sleet). The tent kept us completely dry and out of the wind. It was easy to put up and actually stores easily back in the original tent bag it comes in. We also had enough room for two adult males and our two back packs. Again, for $57 it is a very good tent and I would recommend it to anyone that does casual camping a few times a year.

It is a nice tent for the price. $40 is a great price for a 7x7 tent.
Unfortunately, mine is defective. The first time I put it up, I noticed that one of the black straps that hooks the tent body to the poles had not been sewn on correctly. So, the strap was frayed, and there was a hole in the seam that went clear through. I called Coleman to ask about their warranty, and they told me that I have to pay shipping to have it repaired! I told them that their policy seemed unfair, but they didn't seem to care. They gave me the choice of paying for shipping or paying someone to repair it locally. Either way, they would not reimburse. They told me that other companies require customers to pay for shipping both ways. I really don't care what other companies require. If a product is obviously defective on the first use, the company should take full responsibility for it.

This past weekend was my first experience with this tent - a simply awesome performer for under [...] bucks. I sealed the seams on the rainfly the day before and upgraded the tent stakes all for an additional $[...]. Set-up was a breeze and took under 10 minutes (I placed a tarp down below). Good thing, because the rain came 5 minutes later in buckets and lasted all night. The tent held up like a champ with no leakage what so ever. The size was just perfect for two adults and a few gear bags (or a kid). Highly recommended!

This is a good little tent for my husband and myself. We go camping in the mountains only a couple times a year. This time we went over Memorial Day, when it can still be chilly. Putting up the tent was easy and intuitive. We waterproofed the tent and everything stayed dry despite a couple hours of rain and hail. We were even able to get the tent back into the tent bag when we were done and took it down. My only complaint, and it is unfortunately a big one, is that you can't close all the windows in the tent. It has two large vents (screens) on the top half of the tent that cannot be sealed. That made for some very cold nights. I can also foresee some problems if there was a windy day in a dry area, as the rainfly barely covers those vents and dust/dirt particles could get in there. Unfortunately, our new tent will be replaced sooner than later due to those problems.

Pretty Decent tent for casual camping,

This tent was bought and used the same week when I went camping. It's pretty straightforward to pitch, and it worked as expected in moderately cool weather. With that said, I would not recommend this tent for anything other than casual camping, since it's not a "pro" tent for extreme conditions. For camping in the backyard or a weekend camping trip in late spring/summer/early fall, this tent can handle that.

This tent is great for the cost. It is a perfect fit for my finace and I, all of our stuff and our Boston Terrier. Roomy, but not hard to set up, this tent is worth the money.
