Off the Shelf,
This review is from: Cole's Red-Hot Pursuit (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Patrina Foreman, full figured and well endowed in all the right places, has no trouble catching the eye of the opposite sex. However, after the tragic loss of her husband, a sheriff, three years prior, she is not interested in becoming involved with any man, particularly one in law enforcement.
Cole Westmoreland, unknown to many, has recently retired from his career as a Texas Ranger. He's in town in preparation for his father's upcoming birthday party. Not looking for a relationship either, Cole somehow can't get Patrina Foreman out of his mind, especially now that he is in her neck of the woods. Mother Nature knows best. A blizzard hits, trapping Patrina and Cole together and unleashing some unexpected feelings. As with any of Brenda Jackson's novels, "Cole's Red-Hot Pursuit" is a quick and heartwarming read. The timeless theme of love never gets old and Brenda Jackson is a phenomenal writer whose creativity has no bounds. With the ending, I can't wait for Quade Westmoreland's story. I read this book in three hours. This book was on fire. The chemistry between Cole and the good doctor was off the charts. I could actually feel my heart racing. I enjoyed hearing about the Westmorelands. You need to read this book with a cool glass of water. Cole can chase me anytime. Ms. Jackson, you are the BEST. I cannot wait for Quade's story.

Not Up to Author's Usual Standard!,
This review is from: Cole's Red-Hot Pursuit (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
I agree with the readers who think that this book is not that good. I have been reading Ms. Jackson's books since the very 1st Madaris book and I believe that I am fully able to compare and judge. No author who is as prolific as Ms. Jackson hits a homerun every time and if a reader is being realistic, one should know by now that every book is not going to be a 4 or 5 star read. A personal favorite is "Ian's Ultimate Gamble". It has strong characterizations and plot believeability. This book has neither. Cole comes off as being quite a jerk! Being an alpha male does not mean pratically brow beating the woman into accepting him as her lover. The worst feeling that I can have for a hero (book or movie) is the feeling that the character is gettin' on my last nerve and believe me when I say Cole Westmoreland did exactly that.
I was almost skimming the book past the half-way mark and by the end, I was relieved that it was done. I then promptly forgot it and who it was about. Clint Westmorland (Cole's brother) has a much better story and is a more likeable guy.

I agree with the reviewers that this is not up to Ms Jackson's good standards. As a veteran in this genre this is not the work of someone with her experience. If it was ghost written it explains the lack of a believeable plot. I know this is fantasy but good fantasy gives the impression that the characters could be real (Ms Bryd and Ms Washington, are excellent at this). For the sake of continuing the series and not missing one of the books borrow rather than buy.

Was this written by a ghost writer?,

Brenda, were you too busy to write this book? I know you've been pumping out books pretty quickly lately, but did your deadline for Cole's Red-Hot Pursuit cause you to use a ghost writer? The character came across as an egotistical a-hole. It didn't matter what Petrina thought or wanted, Cole knew what was best for her and that's all that mattered. Petrina's character was supposed to be highly educated, but she came across as a dim-wit who didn't know her own mind and allowed a man to talk her into doing what he wanted. Worse yet, they had unprotected sex their first few times having sex (after 24 hours of truly meeting for the first time). This would be a good book for teenager girls (minus the explicitly sexual language) to read so they know what NOT to do. If you don't want to have sex, go ahead a do it if they boy (man) is good looking and says the right thing, forget what you want. The boy (man) knows better. I know this sounds sexist, but this book seems like it was written by a man and one who'd never written before. I love Brenda Jackson's work, but this one was a TOTAL diappointment. If I didn't pay under $4 for this book, I'd ask for a refund. Don't worry, I'm still a Brenda Jackson fan. I'll just forget this book was ever written.

jackson disappoints to a large extent,
This review is from: Cole's Red-Hot Pursuit (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the second novel of Jackson's that I took the liberty of reading. It had as little depth as the book I previously read (Irresistible Forces) and mirrored the plot to make this book annoyingly predictable. The ending in both books was so similar, it tempted me not to bother finishing the story of Cole. The prose was too simple and few characters in either book were likable. The book moved in the wrong order, making descriptions of family boring at best. I've since moved on to novels with prose that blows Brenda out of the water. I will no longer bother picking up any of her books for I fear the next will be exactly like the last: stupidly predictable and unrealistic.

Cole's relationship with Patrina was unexpected to all.... except them. They were attracted to one another from the start..Their relationship unexpectedly started and it didn't stop... Great story about those darn handsome Westmoreland men..

For a true, die-heart romantic this book was just what I needed to pull me out of my reading slump. Cole had me wishing I was Patrina for just one night. Loved this book as always with anything by Brenda Jackson. Good, Fast read
