5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find offline, January 17, 2007

My dentist recommended Gel-Kam to protect the tooth enamel exposed by my receding gums. For some reason the product was hard to find in brick-and-mortar drugstores, though as far as I know it's over the counter in the USA.

The product is more liquid than a toothpaste, and has an unpleasant metallic smell. But it works well in reducing the sensitivity around the gumline so that you can brush that area more thoroughly.

Regular use (every other day) stained my teeth gray. Cutting back to once a week seemed to provide the same benefits without this cosmetic detraction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for adults looking for higher levels of fluoride, June 21, 2011

This review is from: Colgate Gel-Kam, Dental Therapy Pak, Mint - 7 oz (Health and Beauty)
Colgate Gel-Kam seems to be an excellent choice for adults whose dentists recommend higher doses of fluoride. It contains the same 0.4% stannous fluoride strength as prescription topical applications such as OMNI gel (vs. regular Colgage toothpaste with .24% sodium fluoride). It can also be a good substitute for those who have undesirable reactions to the supposedly inactive toothpaste ingredient sodium lauryl sulfate, which irritates my palate, gums, and lips when exposed over a period of days or weeks. Gel-Kam is also less expensive than the prescription products available in my San Diego area.

Wonderful for aging gums and crowns keeps cavities and sensitivity down and works best when left on for at least 30 minutes after using.

5.0 out of 5 stars love this stuff - so happy to find it, September 11, 2010

This product was recommended and sold by my first dentist and took very good care of my tooth sensitivity problem. My second dentist didn't have it and I have been trying what they sold to no avail. My teeth are very sensitive to cold and sweets now that I have been off of Gel Kam for too long. Just started using it again and I can already feel a difference in my tooth sensitivity. Very happy to be able to but this product again without having to have a dentist's perscription or permission.

I've used one tube so far and have felt a different in the sensitivity in my teeth. Cavity-wise it will take a while to see the results. But I would recommend this as an added treatment to help people with sensitive teeth. The taste isn't too harsh, even though it is not suppose to be swallowed. And it is easy to apply, brush onto teeth then spit out and do not drink for 30 mins.
