1.0 out of 5 stars Cigar Lighter Colibri Firebird, October 14, 2010

I got the lighter pretty soon, used it three times and stopped working anymore. The lighter lit every second time. I'm going to refill it and check it again, but if it won't help, I would say, don't rely on this product. Outside: it's pretty nice, so I've given my single star for the design.

This faulty lighter that was suppose to be a surprise for my dad worked twice. When we refilled it according to the instructions it refused to spark or ignite. Now we have to spend more money to ship it and insure it.

Though I didn't buy this thing at Amazon, be forewarned...it's junk
It works when it wants to which is in a blue moon. One could try lighting
a burned match and get very much the same result though I believe the match
would work better than this thing. VERY disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, June 18, 2010

Everyone told me a Colibri lighter was a good choice. Everyone was wrong. I bought two different kinds and I'm lucky if either one works 1 out of 20 tries.

Years ago, Colibri was the cadillac of lighters. I had one for many years and it lit in any condition. I loved the lighter. It finally wore out so I bought a new Colibri, and it was total crap. I filled it and it wouldn't light. I drained it and filled it again and again, to no avail. I sent it back and got another one. The first 3 tries, the same thing happened. The fourth time I filled it it finally lit. Now, 3 weeks later it is intermittent at best. It won't light in any kind of wind and you need to keep it warm (in your pocket), or it won't light at all. If I leave it outside or in my garage, it won't light until it warms up. My old lighter never had any of these problems.

I did some checking and the old Colibri company went belly up in January of 2009. Apparently, these new Colibri lighters are not the same as the old ones.

Alright, so if you're looking at this lighter,
1. You think it looks decent
2. You don't want to spend too much money
3. You might have only started collecting lighters

So, i purchased this lighter a month or two ago, and it seems to still work, thats a good thing, but who reads a review thats only good and nothing bad?? Definitely not me.

Pros-
-Looks good, feels like fake leather.
-Lights correctly

Cons-
-It is not wind resistant... a slight breeze knocks the flame out, if you want wind resistant, get a zippo, or a very powerful butane lighter.
-the toggle on the bottom does not go very high, and even at the highest setting the flame is not too large.
-the lighter also says that it has an automatic relight, so what you would expect is a constant flame, but thats not always the case.

If your looking to start off with a butane lighter, its a good choice, if your a collector of good lighters, you probably aren't reading this.

Final thoughts-
I enjoy the lighter, it gets hot enough for my needs. I don't use it outside with alot of wind, mainly indoors. And i've gotten many compliments on it. as long as you turn the knob to max you'll get a decent flame each time you click.

if you have questions before purchasing it, you can just comment on this review and i'll try to get back to you.
