This CD is fantastic. I was really surprised at the sound. I only paid 50 cents for this so I was not expecting much. I was wrong. This reminds me of Brian Seltzer (Stray Cats) only more raw. It is hard for me to classify it. I love blues and jazz so I can see it fitting in that category but it also belongs in rock. His voice and electric guitar skills are hynotizing. This CD is a keeper. It has both slower songs and jazzier renditions such as Cadillac Baby. You will not go wrong with this CD. If you want a good dance song then play The Boogie Twist Part II.

I own two other Colin James CDs so I guess I am a fan. Initially this was my least favorite CD, but I find myself having to reevaluate my opinion because every time I listen to it it just keeps getting better. "Sit Right Here" is one of my favorite tracks. As Judy says in her review, although it is hard to classify--jazz, blues, rock--the CD is a definite keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars great big band horns and piano boogie woogie blues, April 20, 2011

This CD is a good mix of up tempo and slow blues numbers from Colin James. In a similar vein to Brian Setzer, he has an excellent voice for this type of music, and his guitar-playing is damn good. Add to that the fantastic horns and juke-joint piano, and you have some rockin' blues. If this doesn't get the toes tapping, nothing will. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally found the song!, January 25, 2011

There was a snippet of a song that I heard on an original episode of Due South (awesome show!) and I have been looking for it ever since. Finally found it on this album - The song is Cha Shookie Do. LOVE the music in this song!
I only gave it a four star rating because I don't normally listed to blues and I really don't have any comparison for how Colin James & the Little Big Band rate in that category. However his regular fans give most of his albums a 5 star rating. I did like everything I heard, it is just not my regular cup of tea.
It would be a Great album to dance Swing to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one ... great music, great production, rockin' big band blues., January 2, 2011

This guy will probably never become mainstream, which is sad. His band rocks with a flawless mix of rock, blues and big band. It's toe tappin' music of the best kind. It rings as true today in 2011 as it would have in 1950. the music simultaneously has a contemporary feel and a warm way-back boogie core. It is delightful to listen to casually and if you have an ear for it, deeper listening is rewarded by the many nuances in the production, including a wide sonic spectrum of highs and lows, great bass lines, kickin' drums, jazzy/rock guitars, great horns and a vocal that holds it all together. This guy, Colin James and his "little big band" are seriously under-appreciated. Consider this a gift to yourself. If you like exposing your friends to great new music, look no further.
