A Well-Produced Recording...,
By
This review is from: Collaborations (Audio CD)
Just after mainstream rapper Eminem released another album full of expletives and insults, KJ-52 has returned to deliver a new album full of phat beats and lyrics that inspire holy living. Collaborations features KJ rapping with a slew of hip-hoppers, and a handful of rockers. Those who aren't familiar with the music of KJ-52 will quickly realize that his voice and style resemble the multi-platinum Eminem, but the comparisons to Marshall Mathers end there. Probably the most gripping song on the album is "Dear Slim," a song that loosely parallels Eminem's "Stan," where the rapper is writing a letter to the superstar. KJ speaks to Eminem as a hip-hop peer, and sends a message to Slim Shady that he's praying for him, because "a life without Christ is a life that is never fixed." The whole album is full of intelligent, God-inspired lyrics. The song "Wait for You" talks about waiting until marriage for sex. He addresses women everywhere about men who are just looking for sex: "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, but what a man oughta do is respect you." KJ keeps it real by not being shy about the issues he's addressing. He plainly says, "It ain't a dirty word to be a virgin." Lyrics with such rich Biblical truth have historically sounded hokey and corny, but KJ-52 uses his amazing hip-hop talents to relay his messages while still getting listeners to bob their heads. I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but KJ-52 has completely drawn me in to his music with his words. I completely recommend "Collaborations" by KJ-52. The album is well-produced, not corny at all and totally radio friendly. Christian hip-hop continues to grow, and with albums like this one, it won't be long before the secular world takes notice. This has got to be the best Christian hip-hop album out so far this year. I give this album an A ...

A great Eminem , Nelly,or 50 Cent alternative,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Collaborations (Audio CD)
Talk about a great CD!!This is the best christian rap CD in a very long time. While maintainig his own style,KJ also sounds almosy exactly like Eminem(without all the profanity). The best song on here is"Do that".Dear Slim is the driving force behind this entire CD,in which, instead of trashing Eminem or critiscizing him,was written to show him that God can even love him. When I heard"Coke Fry Cheese Burger" I almost died laughing! A great CD all the way to track 16.

this album is not an attempt by "God people" to get attention, it is an alternative to those of us who love the genre but don't like the oft times negative message. This is Christians practicing their religion, not trying to offend, thus the term Christian rap. Despite what most people think, Christian music is not all hymns and psalms anymore, there is an enormous variety. Kj-52 is a very talented Christian artist and I would recommend this CD to anyone who appreciates the effort made to write the type of music he loves while staying true to what he believes in.

Very Solid!,

This is arguably KJ's best cd. From start to finish, this cd is very solid. He has great beats, good lyrics, some of his songs are serious, some are silly, and anyone can listen to this cd and love it. In fact, my copy is so worn out that i will have to purchase a new copy soon. If someone has told you to buy just one kj-52 cd, make it this one, this is definitely the best one to start with.

KJ-52 has shown a brilliance on his latest release that is equal to much of secular hip hop. His message is nver muddled. He unapologetically speaks of living for Christ and the change that can occur in your life. With a sound that is simillar to Emenim, KJ-52 declares the Lord's mesaage at full volume. His track dedicated to Em (Dear Slim) is hauting and I pray that the rapper hears it and considers what KJ has to say to him. It is encouraging to hear a positive message coming from such a street sound. I highly reccommend you get this cd.

Good deal,

i'm mainly a guy that is into rock and every genre that comes with/off it, but I'm familiar with rap to disect it with some meaning still.
I own around 110 cds and in there have a Grits cd or two and the Toby cd with "Gone" on it, which is an incredible song by the way. I also own all of eminem's cd's and he stood as basically the only rapper that ever saw my cd player now. I heard the song "Dear Slim" by KJ 52, via a download. All I gotta say is Slim won't be taking up my system if I feel like rap. Do yourself a favor and check out the song "Dear Slim," it's insanely amazing. "Where Were You" is also a decent song on this cd. Anything more I have to say has already been covered in these reviews, and I'm lazy, so I won't spit it back out all over again. I just gotta say listen to that song, "Dear Slim," and this cd is worth buying.

ACTUALLY 4 1/2 STARS, BUT. . .,

KJ-52 is in a class of his own, followed closely by his fellow white-rapper John Reuben. Not only are they both white, middle-aged men rapping up songs, but they both carry a fun, easy-going kind of rythym in their songs. Unlike the dark, punkish rap from groups such as Ill Harmonics, Grits and Cross Movement, both men use light and even goofy tunes and lyrics. Even in his first cd, which wasn't as 'silly' as Collaborations, KJ still had a fun sound to him. Personally, I LIKE this sound. It makes the music fun, as I've said before, to listen to, and every time I hear one of their songs I pick up on some new silly thing that makes me laugh. LEAVE A MESSAGE - the opening to the cd, and not even a song. it's an alright opener for the cd, but i won't rate it in stars since it's not a real song. NURSERY RHYMES - one of the more comical and upbeat songs on the record, this song had me laughing all the way through - 7.5/10 SONSHINE - i don't particularly like this song, because it doesn't have enough rap and i don't like the guest lady singer's voice - 5.5/10 WAIT FOR YOU - this is also a stirring song about the importance of virginity, but may not be good for younger kids - 8/10 REVENGE OF THE NERDS - probably the funniest song on the album, with funny imitations and clever rhymes (may have been an inspiration for KJ's new song 'Back in the Day')- 9.5/10 THE MULLET SONG - funny song, but gets old after a while - 6/10 5TH ELEMENT - good song, with a very true and thought-provoking ending - 7/10 INDUSTRY - this song features no music, it is merely KJ rapping to nothing, and lasts only a little over a minute, but not an entirely bad song - 6/10 WHY - this is another funny song (i thought, anyway) that blends good beats and 52's enjoyable rapper voice - 7.5/10 47 EMCEES - mostly just KJ singing behind his own voice making rap-music sound, which i don't really care for - 5/10 ABC's AND 123's - this is yet another goofy song, supposedly taking place while KJ is teaching a group of stubborn students inside a classroom; really like this song and like guest appearance of Billy Puddles - 8/10 WHERE WERE YOU - this song is the most sentimental and 'touching' song of this whole album, even more than 'Dear Slim', for it tells of children who are abused by their fathers (KJ wrote it to his father, who was abusive when he was a child); it is like a cleaner Eminem song - 9.5/10 OPERATOR - closing of the cd, and again not really a song, so i won't rate stars COKE, FRY, CHEESEBURGER - a 'bonus' song, i guess, but it very funny to listen to (it makes no sense at all, but is still a riot) - 9/10
