An essential guide for CBT therapists.,
This review is from: Collaborative Case Conceptualization: Working Effectively with Clients in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (Hardcover)
As Therapists we have waited many years for such a book as this and it has not disappointed. Case conceptualization is one of the most important aspects of achieving effective treatment for clients. This book offers a clear detailed account of how to develop an individualized case conceptualization. Such is the clarity of the book, not only does it inform the therapist but it also makes it really easy to teach the client how to conceptualise. I was only five chapters in when I started to implement the many strategies offered in the book and I immediately noticed that my therapy was much sharper and effective, and the client was more actively involved in the process. When correctly done, case conceptualization allows therapy to flow smoothly and effectively, which is very empowering for the client. Anyone practicing CBT will readily identify with this book. It offers many case examples and also takes the reader through a single case in great detail. This book is a wonderful feeder; the experts at the very top of their field feed their expertise down to the therapist on the ground and this can then be seamlessly passed on to the client. A book of such clarity and simplicity could only be written by people who know their field very well. My only regret is that this book was not available when I initially trained as a CBT therapist. It is a 'must' on every CBT training course and for every CBT therapist wishing to engage in best practice.

At last..... simplified case conceptualization,
This review is from: Collaborative Case Conceptualization: Working Effectively with Clients in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (Hardcover)
I loved this book!!! At last....a simplified model of case conceptualization. Using basic principles of CBT this book taught me how my clients and I can work together to identify their presenting issue, what triggers and maintains it, and how to determine specific interventions. I also realized the value of collaborating with my clients. This easily readable book uses a case example of dialogue between Mark and his therapist to teach this model. I also found the information on resilience and identifying client strengths very helpful. This book kept my interest and is very practical. It also provided a good summary of basic CBT principles. I think it is a good book for both the novice and the veteran therapist. I highly recommend it.

My graduate program focused mainly on psychodynamic theory and practice. Recently, I have became very interested in learning more about CBT. I picked this book out among a few others, and was not disappointed. It is extremely well written, and terribly interesting. If you are a therapist who is considering purchasing this, it is well worth the price.
