5.0 out of 5 stars Motivating December 24, 2008

I have most every collage book out and this by far is one of the very best to come along. Jane organizes her information in a very usable way. Her own art work and that of a few others is fresh and what a nice thing to not see the same old. After feeling stuck in my own collage and visual journaling this book was a welcome motivating force. I teach mixed media book making and collage courses and will use this book as a text from now on.

4.0 out of 5 stars It delivers what it promises March 4, 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is what the subtitle says it is; a practical guide. It reminds me of the visual equivalent of a filling beef stew. There's not much flair to be found in this book, but the artwork and concepts are solid. There are some good introductory level techniques presented in this book. It's not my favorite book on the topic, but it was a good addition to my collection and I'd recommend it to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! September 7, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is very different from Jane Davies' other book on collage. In COLLAGE WITH COLOR, she presented her whimsical and child like side. In COLLAGE JOURNEYS, she presents a more artistic and Avant-garde side. I guess it would be like Eric Carle vs. Pablo Picasso. As a BFA and graphic artist, I appreciate and love them both! In this current book, she challenges the reader to reach into his inner-self and create from the heart. There are no 1+1=2 projects, they are all explorations. It is a marvelous book to inspire you, challenge you, and help you continue to develop your style as an artist. Although it may be intimidating to the novice artist, I highly recommend this book.
