An Historic and Aesthetic Celebration of the Collage, July 18, 2011
This review is for the Revised Edition of 1967.
A bulky book from Chilton: cloth over boards with a sewn binding; 2.75 pounds; b&w illustrations throughout. Glossary, List of Exhibitions, two indices.
"Collage and the collage idea are at the hard core of modern art." This book takes a focused look at collage, beginning with Picasso and Braque and continuing to 1967, discussing personalities of the artists, their aesthetic camps, critical reaction, techniques & materials, and broader aesthetic ideas. The writing here is clear, expressive, and shows a great love for the art of the 20th century.
