One can always get a look into the culture of its people by looking to its modern stories. "The Collar and the Bracelet: Modern Arabic Stories" is a compilation of short stories by noted Arabic author Yahya Taher Abdullah. Deftly translated by Samah Selim, it tells the story of the village of Karnark, and the trials and tribulations they face through the format of a series of short stories. "The Collar and the Bracelet: Modern Arabic Stories" is highly recommended to community library collections focusing on world fiction.

I lpurchased the book for a couse that I was taking and since we had quite a few books to read, I just never got this one read. I am sure it's a great book since I am an historian and I like books from this time period. Thanks for reminding me that the book is on my shelf. I reviewed it and will try to get it read soon.
