On A Night Like This
The sparks between Aiden and Sara have been smoldering since they were teenagers. Sara is afraid to take another chance on a man who broke her heart, and Aiden knows better than anyone how dangerous an intense fire can be. Check out this, the twelfth the Callaways series and all of Barbara Freethy's work

Book Description

Trans-Global IT director Connor Witt is a rare and prized anomaly: the aggression centers in his brain have been suppressed rather than stimulated by the mutated crops that so recently took over the world’s food supply. Bewildered by his physical changes and terrified of a world growing more and more predatory, Connor risks harassment and worse until Trans-Global CEO David Martin collars Connor to protect him against men like security consultant Emmett Drake. Men who stalk Connor as sweet, sexy prey. Men to whom the newly submissive Connor feels irresistibly drawn.

But David can’t be Connor’s master; David’s straight. He promises to find a worthy man, though. One willing to court and appreciate Connor as more than just some rich man’s toy.

While the world adapts to the biological disaster and new laws strip away Connor’s rights, David’s resolve to protect his boy slowly grows into something more. But can his new desires keep pace with Emmett’s determination to claim Connor?

One man offers safety; the other is a safer bet. Problem is, Connor’s never sure which is which. The one thing he does know? He wants them both.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating concept January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a sucker for BDSM dystopias, and this hit most of my buttons. The premise was intriguing, and not something I've read before. The sex was hot, but I found myself more caught up in the story, both with Connor's struggle to adapt to his biological role while maintaining his previous identity, and the horrifying glimpses we got of the outside world.

I could easily have read more--the ending seemed a bit abrupt, in fact--but as a whole it was quite satisfying. However, I did have a problem with the character of Hannah. Having the sole female character be unlikeable, nasty and mean is something that's all-too-common in m/m fiction, and I was disappointed that the author chose to go that route. Still, I liked it enough for a re-read, and I'd buy a sequel if one ever becomes available.

3.0 out of 5 stars Three's a crowd December 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
About 1800 locations with 13 relatively short chapters - quick read.

- different, unique concept for a D/s world... No shifters and no leather
- Connor's emotions/experiences were well written

- a little on the expensive side for amount of story ... More of a $3.00 level book to me
- one too many dominants, namely Emmett (personal feeling really, but also not necessary to plot)
- abrupt ending

The genetic altering hazard increases the aggression & dominance in most of the people affected by it, but then there are some like Connor who are annomalies who become more submissive and crave as well as need a dominant to keep them safe.

I bought the book because I really enjoyed I, Omega, another D/s / BDSM themed story by this author, but this one I was a bit disappointed in. Collared could have been done so much better if it was expanded into a full length novel and had gone into more detail, especially regarding David and Emmett's motivations/feelings. Also, throughout the book they kept talking about "breaking" Connor and while I know what that means in terms of safe wording in BDSM, it just seemed as if the author was talking about it in terms of the affect of the genetic altering, and I would have liked a more detailed explanation of the affects.

Definitely read the Sample/excerpt before buying..

5.0 out of 5 stars Collared by Kari Gregg April 8, 2012
By Elisa
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I knew Kari Gregg as an author before reading this book and I knew she likes her submissive to be VERY submissive and her Dominant to have a protective streak. In a near future, a genetic mutation whose purpose was to inhibit aggression had instead highlighted the Dominant side of most, men and women alike. But among them there are some anomalies, 1 out of 1000, who instead have become more submissive, wanting the touch of a Dominant lover, better craving it. Connor is one of them, and IT director who already before the mutation was a kind and nice guy, but now he is like honey for the bears. When the change happened, Connor was in a relationship, but his partner became aggressive, so aggressive that he had to me forcedly removed from Connor and not the poor guy is without a Master, i.e. prey to everyone who is daring enough to claim him. David, Connor's CEO on the firm, understands that he is in danger and decides to temporarily claim him, until he will be able to find a suitable Master. David is straight, soon to be married to Hannah, and even if he is attracted to Connor, he cannot be what Connor's need. Problem is that, to David's eyes, Emmett, the right Master, is not good enough for his precious Connor, not until the time Emmett will not prove to David to be worth of Connor, and to do that he has to court Connor, to cherish and protect him like David is doing. Between them Connor is not able to think straight (no pun intended), David is a safe shelter, warm and comfort, but Emmett is like a volcano, hot and sexy. If only he could have both their qualities in one package... Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 1/2 rounded up to 4 August 25, 2012
By Beck

This was a wonderful concept that was only shallowly developed. This book could have been wonderful if more time were spent on expanding the post-apocalyptic society plot line. Only 1 in a 1000 people became submissive so that meant that for every 1 submissive, there were 999 über-aggressive & over-sexed dominants. Where were the the street fights, where was the chaos etc.? Only once was the impact of this imbalance very briefly touched on. I did enjoy the book. It is very similar in style to Kim Dare's books but I did spend time missing the story that could have been written & wasn't. Perhaps I spent too much time reading John Wyndham books in my youth, but I wanted the whole story rather than the shallow tale I got.

3.0 out of 5 stars well written BDSM erotica February 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
But oh my goodness I wanted more, more about everybody - about David and Emmett's feelings and motivations, more about Connor and it felt that the ending was not just abrupt but the story broke in the middle. It felt like we only got half a story.
