Remember 'Miami Vice'?,

This was a great soundtrack as it perfectly evokes the up-all-night feel of the movie. Its breadth of artists--Audioslave, Groove Armada and Miles Davis, for instance--all fit the mood in different ways. I used to work a job where I got off at 1 AM and would flip through the dials for different sounds on the way home. Same vibe here.
And when I heard a song called "Rollin' Crumblin" I couldn't help but think of the first time I saw the episode of Miami Vice with Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" (yeah, I'm that old). Great movie; well-done soundtrack/score; a little skimpy with the tunes (at 52 minutes, could have gotten a few more good songs on here).

COLLATERAL is such an excellent movie and one of its many plusses is its urban, evocative soundtrack. It is marvelously captured on this CD with all the variety and intensity you enjoyed while watching the film.
Definitely a superior film score to own.

Urban Landscaping in Sound,

Just watched the movie last night; it's one of those joints where you remember the music as much as the cinematography. I haven't purchased it yet, but I think it may be in order. Actually, I already own some of the stuff, so I may just wait for iTunes to list it.
As an aside, I'm not sure who else might have noticed this, but as Max is giving Annie the initial cab ride, she asks him to turn up a song that's playing on the radio. He replies, "oh, you like the classics?" I couldn't help but chuckle, given that the song he was referring to was "Hands of Time" from Groove Armada's 2002 album, "Lovebox". A classic indeed!

Best Movie Soundtrack of 2004,

If you haven't seen the movie Collateral, then just buying this will make you want to see it. The music evokes such a lush imagery that you almost feel that you're in the scenes, experiencing the traumatic rush & excitement of each scene as they're acted brilliantly by Jamie Fox, Tom Cruise and the excellent support cast.
My favorite track is....well nearly all of them but definitely the memorable & haunting "Destino D'Abril" (the taut scene where Max is in the Mexican club pretending to be Vincent) by a band called Green Car Motel. If you've tried to find music by Green Car Motel and couldn't it's because their official name is actually Act of Faith. The band has 4 members: Rick Garcia - Lead Vocals, Rene Reyes, ex bass player for Oingo Boingo John Avila, and current Goo-Goo Dolls drummer Mike Malinin. Get their album on Amazon today! [...]

Tracks not included,
By
This review is from: Collateral (Audio CD)
This was a good soundtrack, but there were a couple of tracks that were not included on the release. When Tom Cruise's is leaving the jazz club, the track playing is the "Heat" soundtrack, entitled "Steel Cello Lament". Also, the track playing when the FBI agents are loading up and preparing to get Max is from the soundtrack, "1492", entitled "Moxica and the Horse". Just thought I would drop a line for anyone that was interested in knowing. I thought it was a really good movie.

Usually when I see movies, the biggest thing for me is the music. Music helps create the atmosphere for a film, and without good music, the film might as well go straight to the shame awards, because it won't be nearly as good. Fortunetely for Collateral, the music was great in every single aspect.
This soundtrack is definetely one you listen to in a car, at night, through downtown. Micheal Mann chose the music brilliantly, covering all aspects of downtown at night. The beats in all the tracks are great, particularly Ready, Steady, Go, by Oakenfold, and The Hands of Time by Groove Armada. Great songs to listen to when driving, at any time. Anyway...This entire soundtrack is incredible, and I love it. This is one soundtrack that you really should make a part of your music collection.

Collateral,

I originally bought the soundtrack because of one song I had heard in the movie. However, when I received the CD I was surprised to find I liked nearly every song on the CD. Good choice.

Collateral - first things first,

I've seen this movie few months ago (on the big screen) and
then i've somehow forgot about it. Until yesterday, when i've heard one of the tracks on the radio. A flashback! Quick trip to the local store resulted in my plans changed for tonight. Got best of both worlds - a movie on the DVD and CD with soundtrack. I think that music makes roughly 50% of the picture. Track choice is excellent; take the sequence when Max crashes the car for example. Can it be any better? I don't think so. Plus, the soundtrack wins my little personal competition for best end titles background: Destino de Abril is a perfect ending for the story. I would highly recommend this CD. AND the movie.

A perfect piece of very stylized art,

When I was watching "Collateral" for the first time, I couldn't help but to draw similarities with other films such as the first "Matrix" and the majority of Tarantino's work. But there is a mythical quality the film evokes, especially in the scene where the coyotes cross the street - it's almost hypnotic. However, it is the music that deserves as much praise as the film. Most scenes blend with the music in such way that it is very difficult to imagine one without the other. "Ready Steady, Go" is a perfect example of how a song can infuse the club scene with more style. Overall, the soundtrack contains an outstanding aural collection about the night atmosphere portrayed in the movie.

A nice variety with some notable tracks,

Overall, I liked this soundtrack. Has a variety of genres and a variety of tunes. Although missing a few tracks as noted, it pretty much covers what was featured in the film (a very good movie by the way). I recommend, at least for diversifying your music collection!
Also, in response to those asking about the Fever Club song, it's "Ready, Steady, Go" by Oakenfold. And it's on the album. In that case, whoever was asking bout it never did actually listen to the album before rating it, or otherwise they would have found the song on there...interesting, eh? |
