So fly...,
By All love! Philana Marie Boles, novelist (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collectables By Ashanti (Audio CD)
I love it (and I'm so surprised by the various negative comments). It doesn't seem like these people reviewed the same CD that I felt compelled to comment on, but to each his own. I don't know what's going on with the hating because this CD is BANANAS!!!
Sure, Ashanti had a little bit of an extended sophomore slump, but she's back in a fierce way. This is the Ashanti that we loved from jump. This is the Ashanti who really REALLY understands what a girl is going through in relationships these days. She's so fly because, on one hand, she puts emotions to lyrics soooo well, but then she equally knows how to (with the "musical army"--as she calls them) inspire a lot of head nodding and finger snapping. This CD is so fly. I can't get enough; fans of Ashanti won't either. Thank you Ashanti, for continuing to put it on wax--the things that us ladies go through--and for giving us this CD, a reminder that you still and will always be here. I'm rolling heavily to this, no pushing of the eject button anywhere in the near future. I love every cut. My favs, though it's hard to choose, are "Still on it", "Focus Remix" and oh-my-goodness the remix of "Rain on Me," is soooooo fly. You can just TELL that on that cut our girl is really feeling what she's singing when Ashanti sings the words... "See everybody wanna rise to the top these days... A lot of people might come and try to take your place... Oh you know that all you gotta do is keep risin'... Don't look back and keep shinin'... I had a little struggle, I had a little pain, now make it rain, make it rain, make it rain..." Keep risin' Ashanti. Glad you're back. Stay here.

This is the hotness!,

Honey, I was so glad that Murder Inc got acquitted of those ridiculous money laundering charges. I know Miss Ashanti would NEVER team up with a label that does shady practices, and that's why I respect her. This album is BANGIN' with beats, and you need to get this, okay? I love you, Ashanti!

U Better Go Back to 2002...,

Im in love with Ashanti's self-titled first album.
Chapter II & Concrete Rose were very dissapointed. I really think she is a great performer and songwriter, but she better go back to 2002, her beginning. That was Hot! Girl if you moved to another record company and make real R&B... I'll buy it!! I even don't like this artwork!!!! It reminds me J. to that Lo! Wack!

More than just a "Hook" Singer,

Ashanti is no stranger to hit songs. The Collectables by Ashanti showcases her talent and shows that she's more than a "hook" singer. Not that I don't like the original versions, but I'm really feeling the remixes. The People's Champ, Paul Wall, and Method Man rap over the first track, "Still On it." JaRule is on two tracks: "Only You Remix" and "Rain On Me Remix." Former 106 & Park host Free drops by on the "Focus Remix." Some of the other tracks that I like but hadn't heard before are "I Love You" and the smooth groove "I Found It In You" which samples from Zapp's Computer Love.
None of the remixes lose the luster of the original songs, but the guest appearances on the Collectables add that extra ingredient to make it a CD that fans of Ashanti would want to have for their personal music library.--Shelia M Goss, BellaOnline Women in Music

What happened?,
By Dookie2Me "d00kie2m3" (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews

People have confused this album for a Greatest Hits album. It's not. It is best described as a b-sides album, featuring mainly remixes of older albums. This immediately points out the main problem of the CD; there's hardly any original material on it. The songs sound smooth and well produced, but it's rap that makes this album to what it is.
Ashanti's voice is pure, you have to hand this to her. The issue is that it's not very powerful. The raps by Method Man, Cadillac Tah, Ja Rule and others immediately have the upper hand as Ashanti's voice disappears into the shady chorus-parts. Method Man and Cadillac Tah do shine with their raps. In fact, they shine so hard that this, originally R&B album, rapidly turns into a rap-album. It's hard to believe that this was intended. This leaves us with a very mediocre album that leaves the genre undecided. The beats are overall good, not outstanding, just good. It's a shame, because much more could've been achieved to make this a believable R&B album. If I had to choose between this album and chickensoup, I'd go for the chickensoup.

Still Down,

This remix CD give you a whole new take on the previoulsy released Ashanti songs. It also gives you some new material. The rappers on the "older" stuff add a new dimension to the song. Not necessarily making them any better but not hurting them in any way either.
I love the new single: "Still On It" Great beats, Ashanti sounds as hot as ever - the rapping is so-so. Very radio friendly. Hopefully it will be another big hit for her. I am glad that they did not go too far back and stuck mainly with songs from her 2 previous CD's: Concrete Rose & Chapter II. I don't think I could handle too many more listens of the material from her first CD anymore. I think it is a fun and very likeable CD. It even took a few songs that I never liked and remixed them so well that I now like them.....such as: "Rain On Me" and "Still Down" Not the best. But it is well worth the purchase!

This is Hot!,

Collectables is a collection of rare Ashanti remixes. Ashanti's Collectables is an album that features 4 new songs and 6 remixes. Ashanti has only been around for about years, but she has shown the world what she is capable and her talent is incredibly amazing. Her voice can simply blow your mind away and the mixes are really good. I have to say that if she keeps doing her thing she will keep rising. She has the potential to be one of the biggest R&B stars. The album boasts appearances from Ja Rule, Paul Wall, Method Man, Black Child, Merci, Hussein Fatal, Charli Baltimore, Caddilac Tah, and Free formerly of the BET show 106 and Park. The "Rain on Me" Remix is one of the hottest Murder Inc remixes ever. It's one of the reasons you should pick up this CD if you are an Ashanti fan or an R&B fan. One of my favorites include "I found it in you," so mellow and the lyrics are awesome. Another really hot remix on the album is "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby). This is the remix that uses a strong sample from the Michael Jackson song "Rock With You." I have to say that this one is rocking! I love it! I think that this is the best one of all of them! I strongly recommend it!

Ashanti Did It Again!,

Why all the negative comments? I love Ashanti and she can't ever do wrong. Every time she comes out with an album, or featured on someone else's track she blows up. Lloyd's "Southside" flopped but Ashanti stood on top. She came up with Ja Rule, but now people are only talking about her. Just face it, you can't help but love her sexy, smooth, classy, hip style. I love this new album cause it's got some of her best hit singles but with a twist. I like what Irv Gotti did with "Focus" and "Only U". The "Rock Wit U (Aww Baby)" remix is tight too. I never get sick of the original and loved it since it came out on "Chapter II". The four new tracks are cool too. My favorite has gotta be "Still On It" cause it's got Paul Wall & Method Man on it. This song is soooo bad and the beat is bumpin'!! Any Ashanti fan is lost without the "Collectables." I love her!!!

Still On It....,

Ashanti has many hits in the music industry so it was just a matter of time before a remix album would come out. Although short, mirroring her career thus far, only ten tracks ( and only 6 of those are true remixes) the album is good for those who don't already have these songs somewhere else. It's missing some crucial remixes though like the Happy remix, The Pledge remix as well as a few others. There are also four new songs (to my knowledge). Of these new songs the best one by far is Still On It ( the single) feat. Paul Wall & Method Man. That song is a banger with both Paul Wall & Method Man gettin busy on the mic. The other three songs are cool as well but I seem to be feeling Found It In You the most. Overall, the album is a bit underwhelming simply because it feels rushed and there isn't enough remixes on the album. Unless you are a die hard fan you can pass on this one. 2.5 stars
