This review is from: Collected Piano Music of Ferdinand Jelly Roll Morton (Paperback)
This edition may be out of print but Schirmer prints it now, retailing at $35 at time of this post. So unless you are a collector do not get trimmed by any expensive resellers with collector prices. This is the same work by the same author not a just some book with some Morton. This is important since Morton's music was never published the way he invented it but in extremely simplified commercial form. (This I believe is partly from Morton's desire to keep his trade secrets and partly from the fact that real Morton is much more difficult to play than other ragtime/early jazz era works, which might have hurt sales.) This book and its Schirmer reincarnation are a remarkably large set of transcriptions made from recordings, Morton's music the way it really was, not the way it was rendered for the bulk sheet music market. Happy hunting, and may all the great albums of ragtime, Lamb, Confrey et al, be back in print at reasonable prices soon!
