Holmes and Watson in reverse,

This review is from: Collected Raffles (Everyman's Library (Paper)) (Paperback)
As a longtime Sherlock Holmes fan who has read too many pastiches that don't capture the Conan Doyle spirit, I can't believe that I only recently heard of A.J. Raffles. Written by Conan Doyle's close friend and brother-in-law E.W. Hornung, the Raffles stories, about a master thief and his less talented partner and chronicler, manage to capture the spirit and the fun of the original Holmes stories. As with Holmes, we meet Raffles early in his career and see him go from amateur to master thief to...his own version of beekeeping on the Sussex Downs. Along the way Hornung takes a number of pokes at his brother-in-law, some subtle and some not so.If you've read all of Conan Doyle's Holmes stories and want to read more, Raffles is the closest that I've found.
