Book Description

August 1999 Collected Works of Edward Sapir (Book 3)
This third volume of The Collected Works of Edward Sapir titled Culture is divided into five sections. The first section contains Sapir's essays on theoretical and conceptual topics in cultural anthropology, psychology, and other social sciences, mostly published between 1917 and Sapir's death in 1939. This section includes two previously unpublished major papers from presentations at the 1926 and 1930 Hanover Conferences. The second section consists of an edited manuscript on the psychology of culture, based on student notes on the lectures Sapir intended to base a book upon but which he did not live to write. The third section contains Sapir's reviews of books in psychology and psychiatry, published between 1917 and 1928. Section Four contains his previously-published essays and book reviews on social and political topics of the day, written mainly for a general audience. The final section contains essays and reviews on music and contemporary literature, including a few previously unpublished pieces.
