More About the Author

F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of the major American writers of the twentieth century -- a figure whose life and works embodied powerful myths about our national dreams and aspirations. Fitzgerald was talented and perceptive, gifted with a lyrical style and a pitch-perfect ear for language. He lived his life as a romantic, equally capable of great dedication to his craft and reckless squandering of his artistic capital. He left us one sure masterpiece, The Great Gatsby; a near-masterpiece, Tender Is the Night; and a gathering of stories and essays that together capture the essence of the American experience. His writings are insightful and stylistically brilliant; today he is admired both as a social chronicler and a remarkably gifted artist.

As a Kindle reader you may already know that navigation to page numbers and chapters of books is can be difficult. Without a table of contents or any linking guide it is impossible. This edition does not even have a listing of the included works. Other Fitzgerald editions here are better (not the Halcyon one). Be sure to look for editions of books indicating an "active" table of contents before purchasing. The safest bet when perusing Kindle items (all Amazon items in my opinion) is to find ones with customer reviews in case "Active Table of Contents" is not indicated in the product description. Good luck.

I accidentally missed the reviewer who already mentioned the missing table of contents. Given a book of this size and multitude of separate works, no TOC makes it essentially unusable. It also makes the product description patently untrue. I'm surprised product vetting hasn't filtered this out yet.

I have been reading the novels and short stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald for many years and have enjoyed them very much, especially his short stories. Although he only wrote five novels and about 120 short stories(not counting the 17 Pat Hobby stories), it has been nearly impossible to find a stand alone hardcover volume that contained all five of those novels over the years and I had almost given up hope. I usually had to buy separate paperbacks of "The Great Gatsby" and other novels which eventually became worn or loaned out to friends never to return. That has all changed now with this beautiful hardcover edition from the Wordsworth Library Collection called "THE COLLECTED WORKS OF F. SCOTT FITZGERALD". Included in this 1455 page massive edition are all four novels that the author completed and published during his lifetime: "This Side of Paradise"(1920), "The Beautiful and Damned"(1922), "The Great Gatsby"(1925), "Tender is the Night"(1932) and the novel he was working on at the time of his death, the unfinished "The Last Tycoon"(1941). In addition to the above mentioned novels, this new Wordsworth Library Collection contains twenty-four of his short stories. Some of these short stories had appeared in the 1989 hardcover "The Short Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald" edited by Matthew Bruccoli which brought together forty-three of his best known short works. This new Wordsworth Library Volume comes in a handsome blue hardcover binding with raised gold lettering on the front(Note: There is no dust jacket so handle with care) and keeps the same design as their previous volumes on such novelists as Jane Austen, the Bronte Sisters and Lewis Carroll among others. There is a table of contents that lists the page number that each novel and short story starts.Read more ›

Even at a modest buck, this is a complete waste of money.

No way I can see to select what I want to read . . . just start at page one and keep scrolling .

No table of contents

What a disappointment.......and pain in the neck! I did read the reviews, especially Michael Stodghill's. Obviously, he did not have the Kindle version of this book. And then there was the review that said they didn't know what the Kindle owners were complaining about. You can get a table of contents by tapping on the top of the page. Yeah, right. Mr. Stodghill said "the Great Gatsby" is in this collection. Nope. 99 cents isn't much but the aggravation is priceless. Don't buy this. I'm going to have to call Amazon on this and complain.

This book DOES NOT have a functional table of contents as stated in the description, making it impossible to use. Don't waste your money on this one.

IT is a great way to read several of his short stories, poems and novels without having to buy or get several at the Library

I am planning on reading it again. It is also a classic and I just love the classic books. It is a great book for ones' library.

Many thanks, Amazon, you are GREAT for providing us with all these great books for FREE. I also want to thank the many, many authors who offer us their talent for free or at a reasonable price. THANKS
